Austin’s Container is Greeted with Great Joy in Moldova

In early June (see 10th June) we shared a feature showing Austin Long’s lorry container being fully loaded with a huge variety of very useful items – all in aid of a richly deserving Orphanage in Moldova. Here now in July we note that the container has now arrived in Moldova to the utter joy of All. Well done indeed to Austin and indeed to the many superb Volunteers who have brought this splendid dream to reality. Killeagh Visitors Enjoy Millstreet Experience on Thursday

Forty-three visitors from Killeagh and Inch in East Cork pictured at Green Glens enjoying the Millstreet Experience on Thursday, 12th July 2012.    The visit began in Millstreet Country Park followed by Tubrid Holy Well, a Pony Show at Green Glens, St. Patrick’s Church and Drishane.  (S.R.)

Three Recording Gems on CMS’s “Radio Treasures” 8-10 This Evening

One of three radio recordings to be featured on Cork Music Station this evening (Tues.10th July) took place here at Tarrant’s “Bridge Bar”, Millstreet on Friday last when a wonderful group of very talented singers including Catherine and Patrick Linehan from San Francisco shared some great songs and a very entertaining recitation.   Highlights of this recording are included in this evening’s “Radio Treasures” on www.corkmusicstation.com .  (S.R.)

Meeting Henry Healy in Moneygall, Co. Offaly Today

Interviewing Henry Healy in Moneygall for LTV2 and Cork Music Station on Sunday 08/07/2012.   Pictured in front of the Ancestral Home of President Barack Obama during this weekend’s Moneygall American Festival, true Gentleman and Ambassador supreme, Henry (who is a cousin of President Obama) gave us a superb insight into the wonderfully welcoming Moneygall area which was visited by the American President on 23rd May 2011.    We shall feature lots more photos of our splendid visit today when I travelled with Ita and William Fitzgerald of Cullen to do a live CMS broadcast from the Music Aspect of the Festival.   Please tune into “Radio Treasures” on CMS on this Tuesday 8-10 pm to hear some of the highlights of our most memorable visit.   Many thanks to Ita for taking this picture.   (S.R.)

Cork Music Station to Broadcast from Moneygall on Sunday 8th July

Cork Music Station is scheduled to broadcast LIVE from a Musical Festival taking place in Moneygall, Co. Offaly in the afternoon of  Sunday 8th July 2012. And on the very same online radio station (www.corkmusicstation.com) “Radio Treasures” on this Tuesday 8 – 10 p.m. a programme featuring Millstreet Community Choir and Catherine & Patrick Linehan of San Francisco with their Friends.   Great singing and music guaranteed plus a superb recitation.  Happy Listening!  (S.R.)

“STRINGS” Featured on BB1 NI Television This Evening

In a BBC1 NI television documentary this evening (6th July 2012) entitled “The Clipper Homecoming Festival” the local very talented musical group who have recently returned from Derry where both the North Atlantic Fiddle Convention plus the Clipper Festival took place – featured on the excellent television programme.   Here we show a still picture from the programme with renowned Presenter supreme, Gerry Anderson, doing a piece to camera as the group played in the background to the delight of all.  We arranged to record the programme for our Museum archive.  Well done indeed to “STRINGS” on performing in such a highly prestigious programme viewed by millions!   (S.R.)

A Very Happy 4th July to All Our American Friends

Canon John Fitzgerald, P.P. with Pat & Paul Steimle from Racine, Wisconsin, USA at St. Patrick’s Church, Millstreet on Friday, 25th May 2012. Pat & Paul were tracing roots in the area on that day. They arranged to visit Millstreet before joining a Group Tour of Ireland. The very friendly visitors were most impressed by the welcome and charm of Millstreet. “Strings” Live from NAFCo in Derry!

Thanks to Emer Foley-Twomey we have a pictorial update of the wonderful “Strings” Musical Group enjoying their current visit to Derry for the North Atlantic Fiddle Convention 2012 where some 180 fiddlers from all over the world are playing together. Now that must be some truly magnificent harmonic sound! Hopefully we may get to hear a recording of the splendid event sometime. (S.R.)

“Strings” Group Leave for Derry to Participate in NAFCo 2012

The wonderfully talented members of “Strings” leave Millstreet for Derry on Tuesday evening to participate in the North Atlantic Fiddle Convention 2012 being held in Derry. Full details of the Convention are available on www.nafco2012.com . We wish the Group under the leadership of their Music Coordinator, Emer Foley-Twomey, every success. It is indeed very clear that the Millstreet Group (with a further talented musician from Rockchapel) will hugely impress all with whom they meet in Derry when one considers how superbly uplifting the recent truly excellent Strings Concert was in Drishane Chapel on 1st June 2012. Cloghoula N.S. Visits Trabolgan Holiday Centre

Having just enjoyed a great swim in the Centre’s magnificent swimming pool the children and teachers are pictured on their annual School Tour 2012 at the excellent Trabolgan Holiday Centre on Monday, 18th June.  Included is Principal, Mary Murphy.  We shall be sharing lots more images of the splendid day later.  (S.R.)

Meeting with Sonia O’Sullivan – Irish Ambassador Supreme

What a true privilege it was this afternoon to meet with world famous athlete and sportsperson supreme,  Sonia O’Sullivan near Cobh. It all happened so very fortunately as I was on a visit to Trabolgan Holiday Centre with Cloghoula N.S. who were on their very enjoyable annual school tour…more pictures of this very shortly. Special thanks to Pat O’Keeffe of Garryvoe with whom I was trained as a teacher and who was the person who alerted me to Sonia’s presence as we (Pat and I) met today by chance.    I reminded Sonia of her visit to a major event in Green Glens, Millstreet in the 1990s.   Hopefully we shall one day seen Sonia in Millstreet again.  Now, having been so inspired and motivated …. where did I leave those track shoes?!!  (S.R.)

Inspiring Volunteers Coordinate Aid for Moldovan Orphanage

Loading Much Needed Aid for Moldovan Orphanage. Recorded by LTV2 at East Link Industrial Estate in Limerick on Saturday, 9th June 2012. With William Fitzgerald (on extreme right) on camera we arranged to record interviews with Austin Long from Co. Cork and Fran Noone (1st from left) from Co. Louth having met their superb volunteer co-workers from Co. Limerick. The full container will be transported by Austin ( 5th from left) to Moldova within the next few weeks. The generosity not only of these splendid Volunteers but of the many Companies, Hotels, Shops and Individuals who contributed such items as hundreds of pairs of shoes, thousands of nappies (which are like gold in that country), complete toilet sets including sinks, two ton of porridge, beds, toys etc. - is utterly awe-inspiring and shows why Ireland has such a great name abroad. Our LTV2 feature on our visit to the project on Saturday will be shown online very soon. We shall alert you to the feature on our website. (S.R.)

The organisers of the second annual Rathmore food fair held on Sunday last in Teach Iosagain May 20th  wish to thank everybody who supported it in any way. The Kerry Rose Ann Maire Hayes attended, Chef Mark Doe had a cooking demonstration. We also wish to thank Kilcummin Comhaitas, Sliabh Luachra Comhaitas, Biddy group, and we wish to thank Management of Teach Iosagain  for their help. The ticket draw was postponed due to the small amount of tickets sold. It will be held  on Saturday June 23rd at Teach Iosagain, Rathmore Co. Kerry.  At 8.30pm. Musheramore Cross Reached on Recent Walking Festival

Very Successful Vintage Run Today followed by Draw

Some of the many participants in today's very successful Vintage Run pictured at the Square in advance of setting off on the enjoyable event. When the Tractors, Cars and Bikes returned to the Wallis Arms Hotel at 4 p.m. a very fine meal followed and then it was time for the official Draw - the results of which will soon be shared. Jim Fitzgerald of Kanturk has over 400 magnificent pics. of today's event on his Facebook which we shall later share. Great credit is due to the excellent organisers of today's very successful event. I have fought with my weight for years, this year I am winning the battle with the help of jogging and running. I started at 18st 8.5lbs on the 1st of January. I decided this was going to be my year and started jogging and eating healthy from the 1st January. Today I am 15st 9lbs. I am only 1/3 of the way of my journey but I am totally committed and motivated. I have signed up for the Dublin run in april, limerick in May and the half marathon in cork in June. I am currently jogging 10k every morning. I love jogging and hate missing. I have motivated 2 other girls to join me at 6.30 every morning, and …
