If you’re Irish and in Melbourne and live up the Preston way
Give a call on Johnny Tarrant it will help to make his day
And he’ll give you a huge welcome as he has a heart of gold
That great man from Gortavehy a few with two score years old.
.
He’s worked hard throughout Australia for fifteen long years or more
And he’s still the same John Tarrant as I knew in days of yore
He still speaks with Irish accent and he hasn’t changed one bit
And at heart he’s still a youngster with a mighty sense of wit.

Con Murphy was a man from Ballydaly he lived about four miles from Millstreet Town
The first Irish person executed for possessing arms by the then Government of the British Crown
By all accounts a brave and decent person his life was cruelly cut short in his prime
But his merciless judges gave to Ireland one more hero whose legend lives on through the years of time
.
I knew old men who remembered Con Murphy they described him as a brave and mighty man
He loved his Country Ireland with a passion and wished to rid it of the Black and Tan
The British Government abused their rule in Ireland continue reading…

The team who recently arranged to extend the Church Signal from St. Patrick's Church,Millstreet to a far wider area - (from left) John Hickey, the Keogh Brothers from Dublin and John Joe Moriarty. The aerial on the roof of the Church is now much higher. One may obtain the Church Signal on UHF Channel 53. It can be tuned in when Church Services take place. If you are one of the new people who is now receiving the signal (which provides television coverage of Church Services) we would very much appreciate it if you would indicate the area in which you are receiving it by adding a comment here or by emailing <email> This will very much help us to determine the extended radius of the signal. Sincere thanks. (Seán Radley for www.millstreet.ie)

Margaret Radley (nee Linehan) celebrated with her many relatives and friends her 100th Birthday on Tuesday, 21st September 2010 at Kingston-upon-Thames near London. Margaret, a native of Ballinamona near Mitchelstown was married to the late Denis Radley of Millstreet and has lived in Chessington, Surrey for many years. Margaret still has her same wonderful Irish accent and is ever-cheerful with that truly superb laugh which uplifts all in her company. She is Aunt to local Millstreet people - Marie Carroll (nee Radley), Killarney; John, Tommy and Denis Radley, Dungarvan as well as Denis & Tadhg Murphy, Ballydaly. Niece, Breeda Condon of Mitchelstown presented President McAleese's cheque of almost two and a half thousand Euro to Margaret and read the President's wonderful letter sent especially to Margaret from Áras an Uachtaráin. Margaret's daughter, Johanna, presented the Queen's card to her Mum. Highlights of the historic occasion will be broadcast on LTV2 Millstreet. (Seán Radley for www.millstreet.ie)

Yesterday a comment came in from Jerry Kelleher to do with the Keel Graveyard. It deserves recognition in its own right because it lays the foundation for maybe getting some archives for the Workhouse in Millstreet, and in turn the Keel.

Also, at the end, he also asks a very relevant question:

…if Ballydaly School is closing down – what steps are being taken to preserve its records, photos, roll books etc?

John O’ Sullivan from Gortavhey was last week the lucky winner of two free tickets to the All Ireland Football Final in a competition run by the Corkman newspaper. John goes to a lot of the football matches so it was fitting that he won and didn’t have to be scouting around for tickets. The winning ticket was drawn out by Cork Selector Gerry O’Sullivan who would know John as he was for years a manager in Dairygold Millstreet.
