Super night in the Valley of Aubane Last night at Aubane Community Centre for the Monday night Dancing…Last night we had Visitors “The Strawboys” There are very few places where the tradition of strawing takes place. It seems to be confined now to parts of Cork and Kerry. In our photo today newly weds Gerard McSweeney and Karen White were welcomed home from their honeymoon by the strawboys.
The history of the tradition of strawing is that strawboys were uninvited guests who dressed up in suits made from straw and paid a visit to the wedding feast in the midst of the celebrations. The average number in the group was about a dozen and all the gang remained anonymous. The face especially had to be well covered in straw to nullify identification. Pictured are Liam O’Connor (Ballydaly) and Joan Fitzpatrick (Castlelyons) were married in St Nicholas’ Church, Castlelyons on the 18th of November 2011, by Fr. John Walsh. The reception afterwards was held in the Rochestown Park Hotel. This photo along with many more, and all the news of the area are in this months edition of the Clara News which is in out shops this weekend.

Margaret O’Sullivan and John Casey got married last Saturday in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Ballydaly. Photographer Ronan Pallister has put some lovely photos of the day on his blog, as did Fr James McSweeney who did the ceremony.

While Kate Middleton was getting pampered in preparation for her wedding yesterday, bride-to-be Kate Buckley from Kilcorney in Cork was spending the eve of her big day making sure her dairy cows were milked, fed and happy before taking care of herself.
“I was supposed to get my nails done on Tuesday but it didn’t happen,” explained bride-to-be Kate.
Kate said they got engaged last year around August, and the royal couple announced their engagement a short time after.
Meanwhile, Kate’s fiance and fellow dairy farmer William Casey, from Berrings, was also spending the day farming with his father in Inniscarra.

Ben Hartnett (formerly of Clara Road) got married to Mary Winters on Saturday 16th April in St.Patricks Church, Wicklow Town. In the picture are Ben Hartnett and Mary Winters, Ben’s mother Anna, Ben’s brother Conor, and Ben’s sister Gráinne and husband Patrick Casey.

Jennifer Collins and Barry Lawlor who both grew up in Millstreet were married at the end of last year in St.Patricks Church, Millstreet on what was unfortunately a wet day. Ian Cronin Photo Studio have put up a few nice photos of the day onto their blog, so go and check them out

It was a lovely sunny day. Full of emotions, energy, happy tears and laughter. Tina and Glenn are living and working in Galway. They came along to Tina’s home town to get married. The ceremony took place in a beautiful St. Patrick’s Church in Millstreet, Co. Kerry, Ireland. Reception in an elegant and romantic Avenue Hotel in Killarney. (From Bartek Witek Photography)
