Residents will begin moving into the new extension at Millstreet Community Hospital early next week

HSE South West Media Release

Friday May 23 2025

HSE South West is delighted to confirm that residents will begin moving into the new extension at Millstreet Community Hospital early next week.

This new extension at Millstreet Community Hospital is providing 11 single ensuite bedrooms as well as a bright dining room and sitting room. From Monday, staff at Millstreet Community Hosp will support residents from the existing building to move into their new accommodation, where they will continue to receive the same high-quality care in much enhanced accommodation.

The move is part of an ongoing programme of extension and refurbishment which is taking place in two phases. Next week’s move of residents from the older building will also allow Phase 2 to commence, which is the refurbishment of the old building.

Acting Director of Nursing Ger Murphy said:

“Next week will be an exciting week at Millstreet Community Hospital as we support some of our residents to move into their new accommodation. Residents are looking forward to the move, and the team here are delighted to welcome them to rooms which offer more privacy and a better standard of accommodation. Our over-riding aim is to achieve and sustain a high-quality care environment at Millstreet Community Hospital that cares for, supports and values residents in a safe and comfortable environment.  These new rooms will help our dedicated team in this aim.”

HSE South West Head of Older Persons Services Jackie Daly said:

“We thank everyone involved in the project to date, including the residents and staff who have patiently waited for this phase of the development to be ready for occupation. We are delighted to be in a position to move away from shared open wards to single rooms, which offer more privacy and ensuite bathrooms.”
