Michelle Runs in the 3000m Steeplechase this morning

The very best of luck to Michelle Finn who runs for Ireland in Heat 1 of the 3,000m steeplechase this morning at the Tokyo Olympics (1:40am Irish time). An unbelievable amount of hard work and commitment goes into qualifying and competing. We’ll be up late watching it.

Result: 9th in the heat for Michelle in a time of  9:36.26 which she was disappointed with, but it was 37C at trackside with high humidity. Brutal conditions, and a field that was strung out from the start were never contusive to a fast time. We’re all proud of you here.

From Clara to Beijing

Michelle Finn was running in the semi-final of the 3000m Steeplechase at the World Championships in Beijing yesterday. Unfortunately she failed to make the final, running well outside her best time. But, it’s an experience on her way to the Olympics in Rio next year which she has qualified already for.

Michelle’s mum Mary is from Millstreet, and runs with Millstreet AC. They are a family of runners and are regularly seen at the races around Cork and winning often too. All have all run the Clara Mountain Run in recent years. Michelle was the national champion 3000m steeplechaser in 2013.
