John R FitzGerald Mahoney

Hi, I’m trying to find my ancestral roots: My Great Grandfather, John R FitzGerald, was born in Millstreet around 1828 and married my Great Grandmother, Mary Mahoney who was also from Millstreet and born in 1844. They came to the US in the 1860’s. His father was Richard FitzGerald born around 1800 and died in 1840. His wife was Nancy Murphy. Both from Millstreet. I was hoping that someone might know something about them. I am planning a visit to Millstreet next year.Any help would be appreciated.

Permitted Chairs and Stools for Papal Mass in Phoenix Park

It has been brought to our attention that there is an impression that neither stools nor chairs may be taken into the Phoenix Park for Sunday’s Papal Mass.  This is incorrect.  The Garda Website illustrates which type of seating is allowed to be brought to the special event.  This is how the permitted and non-permitted seating is illustrated on Garda Website where the green ticks signify permitted seating at Phoenix Park.  Click on the image to enlarge.  (S.R.)  :

On Tuesday, 19th June 2018 Fr. Paddy O’Byrne celebrated his annual Mass at Tubrid marking the anniversary of his Ordination to the Priesthood in 1960.  People travelled from afar for this special Mass such as Fr. Paddy’s brother Kevin from Skibbereen, his brother Billy from Co. Wicklow and his sister Marie from Kanturk as well as many others such as the son of James O’Sullivan – Matthew who had just arrived back from Thailand.  Patricia Guerin, Breda Fitzgerald and James O’Sullivan added a new dimension this year – a picnic after the Mass creating such an uplifting atmosphere.  Fr. Paddy in his superb homily recalled many wonderful memories and hoped that Our Lady would bring everyone back again for the 2019 occasion in Tubrid.  Here we share a selection of images (11) from the splendid evening.  Click on the images to enlarge.  (S.R.)
