The following is the extended script of the c103 Regional Report broadcast this morning on Patricia Messenger’s “Cork Today” weekday local radio programme. The transmission is repeated after midnight.

Good morning to you Patricia and welcome, dear Listeners, to Millstreet on this bright and fresh summer morning,  the 13th May 2014 which is exactly two days short of the 21st anniversary of the Eurovision Song Contest 1993 which was broadcast worldwide from the Green Glens Arena here in Millstreet.    This is Regional Report No. 1217.  And firstly we extend sincere sympathy to the Corkery Family and to Eily Buckley whose brother Denis Corkery of Kilmacthomas, Co. Waterford and formerly of Liscahane, recently went to his Eternal Reward.   Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.   Eily will be back reporting here on c103 as usual next week.

Visiting Millstreet Museum & News of a Museum Exhibition to Coincide with Cork 20 Event in October 2013

We were delighted to welcome the Buckley Family from Ennis to our Museum during this past week.   Seán (originally from Kilcorney) is grandson of the gentleman who first established Kilcorney Feis in 1910.    The Family are pictured here with the very historic "Mobo" toy horse of the 1950s which was presented a number of years ago to the Museum by Maurice Walsh of Ickenham near London who came originally from Dooneen near Millstreet Railway Station.   Our Museum Church Gate Collection  takes place this evening and tomorrow in Millstreet.  (S.R.)

Niamh Kavanagh sings ‘In Your Eyes’ at the Green Glens

The video above shows Niamh Kavanagh last night performing her winning Eurovision song ‘In Your Eyes’ at the Green Glens Arena – the very place she won twenty years ago, at the twentieth anniversary celebrations of the Eurovision in Millstreet (18th May 2013). Niamh was the special guest at the party which was attended by about four hundred guests. Seán will surely have photos and video on the site in the next few days – video by Joseph Lawlor

New Road Surface Project at Minor Row

Work began at the resurfacing of the road in Minor Row on Thursday (06/09/2012) at 7.00 p.m.. It appears that some of the roads throughout Millstreet town are to be resurfaced in this current project. It was Eurovision Year 1993 that construction work on this scale last occurred in Millstreet. (S.R.)

Four Generations at Eurovision Wall in Minor Row, Millstreet on 24th May 2012 Recalling Millstreet’s Historic 1993 Eurovision Song Contest

How very appropriate during this 2012 Eurovision Week we recall the 1993 Eurovision in Millstreet before which Matthew Murphy creatively painted on his front wall at Minor Row truly superb flags of all 25 countries participating in the Song Contest in 1993. Here we meet this very evening (24th May) four generations of the Murphy Family standing in front of the now renowned wall which has been magnificently further upgraded by Millstreet Tidy Towns Tourism Association. It’s that time of year again, and with the Eurovision on tonight at 8pm from Dusseldorf, Millstreet is getting a mention on the internet as one of the past hosts of the Song Contest. It’s even called a city in a few spots 😉

MSN Entertainment have a nice presentation of former cities, and it’s then Millsteet is mentioned in the same breath as other major European cities:

Television Reminders

“Crystal Swing” are scheduled to appear on tonight’s “Late Late Show” on RTÉ1 television while on tomorrow (Saturday) night at 9.00 on Sky Channel 4More there is another opportunity to view the excellent Australian documentary entitled “The Secret History of the Eurovision” which contains significant footage of Millstreet re the 1993 Eurovision.

The Secret History of the Eurovision Song Contest

Last September (2010) and Australian Film crew rolled into Millstreet, to shoot part of a documentary on the history of the Eurovision Song Contest (held in Millstreet 2011). They received a great welcome from the locals as normal, and had a great few days here. The documentary is called The Secret History of Eurovision Song Contest was aired yesterday (Monday 2nd May) on RTE1. Eurovision Documentary to be Screened on Monday, 2nd May on RTÉ1 at 10.30 p.m.

Entitled “The Secret History of the Eurovision” this major documentary, part of which was filmed here in Millstreet in September 2010 when Niamh Kavanagh and the Duggan Family participated in comprehensive interviews, will be broadcast on RTÉ1 television on this Monday  from 10.30 p.m until 12.15 a.m..

Niamh Kavanagh, Eurovision Winner Supreme at Millstreet in 1993 is very impressed by John Tarrant's headline in this week's "Corkman" newspaper which indicates that Niamh's return to Millstreet was to participate in an Australian directed major television documentary entitled "The Secret History of the Eurovision Song Contest" - scheduled to be broadcast before Eurovision 2011. Niamh is pictured at Green Glens Arena, Millstreet on Friday afternoon, 10th September following a very comprehensive interview by Director, Stephen Oliver of the Australian Film Crew. (Seán)

Eurovision Memories Recalled

Marking the 10th anniversary of the Millstreet Eurovision a very impressive Street Display Unit was put in place at West End, Millstreet in 2003. Lots of Eurovision memories will be evoked on this forthcoming Thursday and Friday when a prestigious Australian Television Crew will be filming in the area. Winner of Eurovision 1993, Niamh Kavanagh, will visit Millstreet on Friday, 10th September to participate in this highly significant Documentary which deals with the History of Europe from the First Eurovision Song Contest in 1956 and onwards to 2010.
