Wonderful Eily Ready to Officially Turn On Christmas Lights Sunday at 6pm

Yes indeed – it’s our very own Eily Buckley who will be officially turning on the Millstreet Christmas Lights on this Sunday, 30th Nov. 2025 at 6.00pm.   Eily is the very first lady and the very first person in their 90s (although she looks in her 60s!) to officially be accorded this prestigious honour.  So very richly deserved by this magnificent personality supreme who was among Ireland’s first lady Bus Drivers, who has been such an inspirational community spirited volunteer, who is such a Family dedicated lady, star of radio and television whose Weekly Reports on www.millstreet.ie are globally popular and are hugely important to so many near and far.   Christmas festivities begin after 5pm with lots of new features this year.   Millstreet Christmas Lights Committee extends sincere thanks to all who have so generously contributed at the recent Church Gate Collection, to the many dedicated Volunteers, to Millstreet Men’s Shed, to Millstreet Pipe Band, to Vintage Groups that truly enhance the magnificent colour evident in the grand Christmas Parade, to the uplifting support and assistance of Cork Co. Council…and to the many other people who help in various ways.   Santa will arrive in very special transport and is assured of a royal welcome together with Mrs. Clause and the very helpful Elves.   Let’s really pray for fine weather!   We recall Steve Collins arriving in Millstreet in 2021 when he and his son were invited to officially turn on the Christmas Lights.  Tap on the images below to enlarge.  (S.R.)

Tommy Burke and Anthony Forde are thrilled that Eily will be officially turning on the Millstreet Christmas Lights 2025.

All Things Considered

It’s only a few months since Eily Buckley starred in Daniel and Majella’s Road Trip, but now she’s in the latest SuperValu advert on our TV’s, in our cinemas, and anywhere else there’s a screen, and she’s back driving a bus full of children again, like she did for many years ! Huge Congrats to Eily, who appears at about 0:42 in the video below:

Eily Buckley

Long before she wrote for the Clara News
And years before I even knew the taste of booze
For her love of people she became well known
And the fame of Eily Buckley has since grown.
.
For years she drove the school bus up and down
The roads of Millstreet to and from the Town
And perhaps many of the kids she drove to and from the school today
From Millstreet Parish now live far away.
.
Miles from Cloghoula her own countryside
Her Cloghoula notes in Clara News read far and wide
In big cities far from Millstreet County Cork
In Sydney, Melbourne, London and New York.
.
Can’t say that I knew her that well at all
Though she is one I readily can recall
For her’s is such a well known and loved face
In Millstreet Parish still my favourite place.
.
A friendly person untouched by conceit
And one of the best loved people in Millstreet
She’d never ignore you as she drove by
She’d always smile and wave a friendly hi
