Eily’s Report – 29th July

Dia is Mhuire díobh go léir a cáirde and welcome to my Report.

If you blink or turn away for any moment you’ll miss something. I was away over the weekend and was sorry to miss the opening of Seanie Murphy’s refurbished dance venue at Carriganima. .I also missed the Sunday Mass where you’re sure to meet someone and hear something. The highly successful International Horse Show ended on Sunday but not to worry there is another one all set to start. Bigger and better if I say so myself. Called the Mounted Games.  No less than thirteen teams are all set to descend on the mighty Green Glens this Week.  Coming from, Australia, Austria, Belgium England, France, Germany, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland & Wales  and it is up to us to extend a huge Millstreet Welcome to them during their stay.  The opening ceremony starts off with the Big Parade on Wednesday July 31st from 7.30pm.  led by our Pipe Band. It would be great if people who may have the flags or memorabilia of any of these countries to hang them out as a token of welcome and support. Protective barriers will be erected by members of our Community Council and their volunteers  to ensure safety for everyone. It will be a most colourful and exciting event. Each team will have their own national flag borne by the young riders on horse back as they move through the town. To add to the carnival atmosphere, there will be food stalls and coffee docks al fresco for all to enjoy.
