Kevin Brennan Memorial Chess Cup

Millstreet Community School was delighted to welcome former pupil Stefan Brennan. Stefan presented the inaugural Kevin Brennan Memorial Cup for the MCS chess champion, which commemorates his Uncle Kevin. Kevin was a dedicated teacher who helped his students thrive in school. He also ran a chess club and made every effort to ensure all students were included in school life.
Tournament winner Yaseen Mukhammed edged the victory over Aaron Bourke in a gripping contest, with Abdul Raheem and Oleksii Shemshur in third and fourth places.
Stefan also shared his extraordinary career path in acting with the students and described his current role in New York acting in ‘King Lear’.  He encouraged students to work hard on their chosen path and to be courageous and choose an area of study they enjoy. Stefan is a graduate of UCC and the prestigious RADA acting academy.  We wish him continued success on stage and screen.

Pitch and Putt Success for MCS

Cian O’Connor, Rory McCarthy and Cian Denis O’Connor were presented with their Munster medals for placing third in the Munster Pitch and Putt in Tipperary recently.
The team played in the All Ireland in Kildare on Friday, May 23rd, and were just pipped for 3rd place in a countback. Fourth place nationally was a fantastic achievement, with all three posting excellent scores. Well done to the lads on coming so close to a national title.
Well done also to the other three teams who represented the school so well in Munster. The players were Oran Kiely, Conor McSweeney, Alan McAuliffe, Labhras O’Dywer, Stephen O,’Mahony, Oisin McCarthy, Diarmaid Keane, Gabriel Zuber and Mark Hickey.
The school is very grateful to Millstreet Pitch and Putt Club for the use of their facilities to prepare for the schools’ competitions. We’d encourage students to join up and enjoy this great game locally and maybe represent the school in the future.
Next up for the lads is the World Schools’ Golf in St Andrew’s, Scotland, a bigger challenge but the short game will be vital!
