NEW START DATE – Starting Tuesday 12th November at 7:30pm in Dromtarriffe Sports Hall. This will run for 6 weeks with limited places available. Open to Teens & Adults. Places MUST be booked in advance. No walk ins. Perfect way to get in shape with this complete body workout striking pads and shields. Cardio , Core & Tone and learning how to protect yourself at the same time. A MINIMUM of Ten people needed in order to run course.

Remembering John “Sing” O’Sullivan

Motivated by the enormous interest in Poet Francis Duggan’s superb poem “John Sing Used to Say” we delved into our Millstreet Museum Pictorial Archives to discover these three images of the late John “Sing”recorded in Millstreet…and John features in many more images also.    Tap on the pictures to enlarge.  (S.R.)

Paddy O’Keeffe, formerly Banteer, Rylane, & Cullen

The death has occurred of Patrick (Paddy) O’Keeffe, formerly Banteer, Rylane &, Cullen, Cork. On 7th of November 2019, passed away, unexpectedly, peacefully in the Mercy Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Husband of the late Eileen O’Keeffe (née Mc Carthy) (Nell), loving father of Trisha, Anthony and Colette, adored grandad of Iarlaith, Paddy, Morgan and Síofra. Sadly missed by his loving family, son-in-law Shawn Meszaros, daughter-in-law Antoinette and Colette’s partner P.J. Cremin, brothers Michael and Fr Anthony, sisters Noreen (Mack) and the late Maureen, relatives, neighbours and friends. “Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hánan”.
Lying in repose in the Church of the Nativity, Cullen, on Friday evening from 5pm to 7pm. Requiem Mass on Saturday at 12 noon, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. [rip]

John Sing used to say that Clara Mountain would outlive the Seasons of time
That it was a very ancient landmark when Fionn mac Cumhaill was in his prime
Sing was such a marvellous character in mood one i never see down
Will there ever again be one like him in Duhallow’s old Millstreet Town?

John Sing used to say Millstreet is in the Diocese of Kerry and we live in the County of Cork
And that many he grew up with migrated to big Cities like London and New York
And though we may feel quite important on the map of the World we are small
