John R FitzGerald Mahoney

Hi, I’m trying to find my ancestral roots: My Great Grandfather, John R FitzGerald, was born in Millstreet around 1828 and married my Great Grandmother, Mary Mahoney who was also from Millstreet and born in 1844. They came to the US in the 1860’s. His father was Richard FitzGerald born around 1800 and died in 1840. His wife was Nancy Murphy. Both from Millstreet. I was hoping that someone might know something about them. I am planning a visit to Millstreet next year.Any help would be appreciated.

Millstreet GAA Club will host its 5th Annual Golf Classic on Friday next 14th September in Mahoney Point, Killarney Golf & Fishing Club. This event has proved to be a very successful and enjoyable day and the funds raised are used for the development of our players. The organising committee of Anthony Dennehy, Declan Crowley, Donagh Hickey, Cian O’Mahony & Noel Crowley have ensured the success of the event and it gives former members and players of our Club an opportunity of meeting in a relaxed and social atmosphere.
The Golf Classic could not be held without the support of our generous sponsors and Millstreet Club wishes to acknowledge the 6 main sponsors of the day – Cloverhill Foods, Colemans Millstreet, Tarrant’s Bar, Eamonn McCaul Mechanical Services, Claramore Construction and Donagh Hickey Motors. We also wish to thank the business of Millstreet and surrounding areas who sponsor tee boxes and greens, the support of each of these businesses is appreciated by the club as we are fully aware of the financial demands that are made on businesses on a daily basis. To all the teams that are playing we look forward to meeting you on the Friday and we wish you the best of luck and thank you for your continued support.

Hugely Successful Autumn Car Run 2018 Blessed with Ideal Weather Conditions

Superbly coordinated by Luke Hurley and his wonderfully dedicated Team in Millstreet Vintage Club the Autumn Car Run was a magnificent success on Sunday, 9th Sept. 2018.  Visiting the Top of Coom with its exquisite scenery and royal welcome followed by a most memorable visit to Gougane Barra the event, blessed with ideal weather, ended with an excellent meal at “The Auld Triangle” Macroom.  Here we share just three of the many images we recorded  – a selection of which we shall later feature – just to whet the appetite for our full coverage of the most enjoyable event.  Click on the images to enlarge.  (S.R.)
