“Everyone has mental health, however some of us are more aware of it than others. Most often, we become hyper-aware of our mental health after being diagnosed with a mental illness. From a young age I’ve struggled with my mental health. Anxiety, depression, and self harm are a part of me that I don’t remember ever being without. Yet for many years, I kept that fact to myself. The medical system and the world around me led me to believe that admitting to fighting a battle with my own mind made me weak and undesirable.
Mental Health Ireland is an organization that helps people such as myself. It is a national voluntary organisation which was established in 1966 as the Mental Health Association of Ireland.
