On June 4th the Daly Gathering for 2017 will take place in Ballygriffin, Mallow.

There are lots of speakers on the day, but one that may be very interesting to us in Millstreet: “The Dalys of Millstreet and Novohaldaly Cork to Clare to Buffalo, New York”, presented by retired U.S. Navy Captain Karem A. Daly, Niantic, Conneticut (3:15pm to 3:45pm)

Millstreet Athletic Club

Do you want to get fit and in shape for the Summer?

Millstreet Athletic Club

are holding training sessions
(over 18’s)
every Thursday night in Millstreet Town Park at 8pm
for beginners and anybody wishing to take up running as a hobby and get fit.
  Its the cheapest sport around.  All you need is  €25 to join the club and a pair of runners.
Juvenile training takes place on Saturdays at 10:30 in Millstreet Town Park

New UV Disinfection System currently being installed

An Ultra-Violet  (UV) disinfection system

Last November the local papers reported that small levels of cryptosporidium had been found in the Millstreet water supply, despite the fact that an assessment in 2015 rated the risk of cryptosporidium as “very high”. The EPA recommended that even though there was no immediate health risk, Irish Water should install an adequate barrier against the parasite to ensure the town’s water supply is adequately disinfected at all times.

Thankfully Irish Water are reporting today that “Upgrade works are underway in Millstreet in North Cork to provide a new UV disinfection system at the treatment plant.” [theCork.ie]

Now, since UV disinfection replaces chlorine disinfection in other locations, wouldn’t it be great if this meant that our water will taste better when the install in completed 🙂 (Our water is disinfected by chlorination and fluoridation) [read more …] “New UV Disinfection System currently being installed”

Thunder and Rain

Thunder and Rain from Colorado will be touring Ireland from Thursday 11 May to Monday 22 May and will be playing Millstreet Library Fri. 19th: Millstreet Library at 11.30 a.m. on Friday 19th. Thunder and Rain are a four-piece country /bluegrass band. They got a fine write-up in Bluegrass Today. They feature Errin Peet-Lukes(guitar, vocals), Pete Weber (mandolin, vocals), Chris Herbst(dobro), and Ian Haggle (bass, vocals; previously here with the Martin Gilmore Trio).
