Eily’s Report – 31 January

Dia is Muire díobh go léir a chairde and welcome to my weekly report.

Today is Grandparents Day at our Catholic Schools.  At the 10am Mass the children sang their hymns and did their readings to the joy of all present, and  family members were invited to the school afterwards for refreshments and great interaction among the young and the not so young. Many thanks to the teachers and all those involved with the happy occasion.

Tomorrow Wednesday the first day of February and is the Feast Day of one of our great Irish saints, St.Bridget, and the first day of Spring. The morning Mass at ten will include the blessing of St.Bridget Crosses which can be hung up in homes  and many other places, to bring safety and blessings throughout the coming year.

Thursday is Candlemas Day.  Candles will be Blessed at the 10am Mass. The Candles to be used on the Alter for the coming year will be blessed and people are invited to bring their own Candles for the blessing which can be kept in the home for the coming year. In the past blessed candles were widely used in the home, in time of trouble and worry, during thunderstorms or other times of danger.

Friday is the Feast of St. Blaise. Mass at 7.30pm.  will be followed by the Blessing of the Throats. People are invited to come along for this very  important  feature of the first week of Spring.
