Eily’s Report – 29th November
Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to my weekly report.
These are the closing days of November and the Christmas Spirit is already gearing up. Towns and villages all over the place are holding Christmas Markets and putting up the sparkling Christmas Lighting. And it all helps to curb the doom and gloom that screams out to us from every every direction.
Our Christmas Market was held at the GAA Hall on Sunday and its an annual meeting place for old and young. A place to buy Christmas presents and to sit and have a friendly chat while the little ones were being entertained in another room.
This time of year also heralds the start of Advent when we are advised to pause in the middle of all the hype and remind ourselves that Christmas is really all about the Birth of Christ Our Saviour.
On Monday nights in the run up to Christmas a reflection on the Sunday Gospels during the Advent Season is held at the Parish centre at 8 pm and all are welcome.
Further to that the Divine Mercy Advent Novena which started on Sunday last will continue each Sunday at 3pm.
A very important Public Meeting on Crime Prevention will be held at the Wallis Arms Hotel tonight Nov.29th, Members of the Garda Siocana will attend and all those wishing to renew or join for the first time, the Millstreet Community Text alert System for 2017 are invited to attend. Please pass the word. Meeting starts at 8.30.
Putting up the Christmas Lights
Great credit and a special thanks must go to all the volunteers who were back out all around the town on Monday and Friday evenings last week, putting all the Christmas Lights back in place, and making Millstreet feel like Christmas for the coming season. Also a special note of thanks to Millstreet Country Park who have donated our wonderful Christmas Tree once again. Food parcels for the Homeless at Christmas
We have locally helped with this appeal for many years now, a few items from everyone goes along way. Just drop off a item or two to the drop in centres below.
Essential foods – for example:
- easy to open tins of Tea, Coffee- small jars, Sugar, jam/marmalade, Tins of fruit, Cartons of Rice, Cereal bars, Spaghetti/beans, Pot Noodles, Cup a Soup, Biscuits/crackers, Tinned – fish, Meat’s, Stew’s, Cornbeef, Chicken, etc.
- Razors, toothpaste deodorants etc
- Always needed – Socks, scarf’s or gloves or good quality warm jumpers, coats, Sleeping bag
Drop in centres –
- Millstreet – Regan’s Mills office
- Dromagh – Angland’s Petrol Station
- Boherbue – Educare Centre
Any Volunteer’s to travel to Cork for the sorting out of foods will be kindly appreciated.
Margaret Crean will collect on Thursday 15th and take items to Cork on Friday 16th December.

In the aftermath of the sentencing for the death of Alex Ryan, Alex’s sister Nicole was interviewed on the Claire Byrne Live Show on RTÉ1 last night, talking about the effects of drugs on families and those left behind, their prevelance in society, how it can happen to anyone. and what we can do to prevent it happening again.
