Millstreet Pipe Band Church Gate Collection This Weekend, 24th & 25th Sept.

Millstreet Pipe Band will be holding their Church Gate Collection this forthcoming weekend, 24th and 25th September 2011.   Established over 60 years this is one voluntary group which deserves the most generous of supports when one considers how privileged we are in Millstreet to have such a musical treasure which always adds so much and gives such a sense of occasion to a huge variety of events on such a very regular and consistent basis.   And we have also just become aware that the ladies in the Pipe Band will be taking part in the Cork Mini Marathon where they will be  fundraising for different charities  including COPE,  The Irish Heart Foundation,  Motor Neuron & The Lifeboat Association.    Your generous support to this weekend’s collection would be greatly appreciated.

Denny Owen

Born and raised in Claraghatlea a mile from the Town of Millstreet and admired and respected and widely known
And though he had lived for years in Bandon we used to claim him as one of our own
And as a primary school going boy in the fifties to this day I can recall
When Denny Owen the Politician was a Minister in Ireland’s Dail.

In the murky game of Politics Denny Owen was a rarity
When he gave his word he kept it he was as honest as could be
And a favourite quote of old Den Looney’s was ‘we will stick by Denny Owen’
As a brother to Matt and son to Mary Annie he is still one of our own.
