This Free Part-time BTEI Course is offered to:

  • Those receiving any Social Welfare Payment, or
  • Those with a Medical Card/GP Only Card, or
  • Those without Leaving Certificate

Ballydaly School Records

Yesterday a comment came in from Jerry Kelleher to do with the Keel Graveyard. It deserves recognition in its own right because it lays the foundation for maybe getting some archives for the Workhouse in Millstreet, and in turn the Keel.

Also, at the end, he also asks a very relevant question:

…if Ballydaly School is closing down – what steps are being taken to preserve its records, photos, roll books etc?

Due recognition for Brother Vincent

HARDLY an adult at the age of 20, Irish lad Vincent J. Corkery set sail on the Peninsular & Orient S.S. Carthage for Malaya, half a world away, in 1948.

Leaving his family in Millstreet Town (Liscahane), a little known place in Cork County, Ireland, he was about to embark on his first teaching post as a La Salle Brother.

Since then, the former Brother Director of St Michael’s Institution Ipoh has continued to lead an active role in the development of local education.

In recognition of his contribution, Brother Vincent was conferred the Dato’ Paduka Mahkota Perak (DPMP) award, which carries the title Datuk, by the Sultan of Perak Sultan Azlan Shah in April this year.

He recalled that he had to travel for three weeks on a ship when he first came to the country.
