Update on Dromtariffe Masses

 

 

Dearest Parishioners,

I hope ye are all keeping well & staying safe as we move into another cycle of Covid-19 where no public Masses are allowed.  However, I am going to continue saying a private Mass for the Station Areas as they are listed in the newsletter.  Some have booked Anniversary Masses for family members and these will be said on the appropriate date.  The parish office remains open so contact Evelyn if you have any queries.

“Radio Treasures” 9.30 to 11.00 This Tuesday Night

Tonight…on this Tuesday, 8th Sept. 2020… on “Radio Treasures” broadcast on Cork Music Station 9:30 to 11:00pm we feature our regular items with a splendid blend of uplifting songs and music as well as a variety of interesting musings and words of wisdom.  Included in tonight’s programme:

  1.  An audio recording from Millstreet Senior Citizens’ Party on 21st Dec. 1980 from the Audio Archives of Millstreet Museum.
  2. Our 10pm Interview is with Artists supreme Cormac Shiel and Denis O’Reardon who have just completed the 1890 Mural at Main Street, Millstreet.   We also chat with Breeda whose script appears on the title of the Mural.
  3. We feature the 2014 Recording by “The Kelts” of Millstreet’s GAA Victory that year.
  4. We chat about the many images shared.   We meet Niall and Donagh of Myretex in Cork installing the new magnificent Outdoor Canopies coordinated by Cork Co. Recruitment of Service Engineer at O’ Flynn Medical Ltd.

                          O’ Flynn Medical Ltd is a national supplier of medical equipment to hospitals and nursing homes throughout Ireland. The company promotes a continuous drive for quality and customer satisfaction.

                          We are currently seeking applications for the role of SERVICE ENGINEER to work primarily at our headquarters in Macroom, Co Cork.

                          THE ROLE:

The successful applicant must have:

  • A suitable electrical, instrumentation or mechanical qualification
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role
  • Be energetic and dynamic with excellent interpersonal and communication skills to operate well with both internal and external customers.
  • Excellent level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Carry out the execution of the preventative maintenance routines and repair of all medical equipment
  • Troubleshoot equipment problems and equipment failures to determine root cause and instigate repair using the latest lean tools and techniques.
  • Provide reactive and preventive maintenance to all decontamination equipment while also identifying the root causes of problems and suggesting process improvements for long term solutions
  • Execute and update as appropriate the existing preventative maintenance programme, in order to minimise downtime and optimise plant performance.
  • Ensure that comprehensive maintenance documentation exists for each equipment item & that it is filed in an organised & legible manner.
  • Develop critical spares list for the equipment & ensure that critical spares are in stock or are readily available at all times. Ensure that an effective programme is then maintained.

Niamh McSweeney, Killarney and Flintfield, Millstreet

The death has occurred of Niamh Mc Sweeney
Killarney, Co. Kerry / Millstreet, Co. Cork

Peacefully surrounded by her loving family and in the wonderful care of the Palliative Care Unit, University Hospital Kerry. Beloved wife of James (Jamie) and proud and loving mother of Killian, Fionn and Oisín. Dearly loved daughter of the late Vincent (Flintfield House) and Noreen and wonderful sister of Deirdre. Very sadly missed by her loving family, parents-in-law Jane and James, brothers-in-law John and Jordan, sister-in-law Mary, nephews and niece John, Alan, Leah and Kyle, aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, neighbours and her many good friends, especially those who supported her throughout her long illness.   A private family funeral has taken place for Niamh. Truly Magnificent Response to the Annual Funding of Museum & Millstreet Website

The amazing generosity of the very kind Supporters of Millstreet Museum and Millstreet Website has been superbly demonstrated within the past 22 hours when a magnificent €1,575.00 has been very kindly donated through our Go Fund Me page by 35 wonderfully generous people at home and abroad.  To reach such an uplifting target in less than one day is utterly incredible and is hugely appreciated.   It allows us to continue our work at Millstreet Museum and to maintain the Millstreet Website.   The work of Volunteers in these Projects is vital and to them we extend heartfelt thanks.  Our Go Fund Me page will remain open until the end of next week coinciding with the week of our usual Church Gate Collection which due to COVID-19 this year has been replaced by this Go Fund Me project.   Míle buíochas to All.  (S.R.)

Clonbanin Ambush Centenary Commemoration Committee Appeal

To All our friends from Duhallow and Beyond

The recently established Clonbanin Ambush Centenary Commemoration Committee wish to make an appeal to the people of Duhallow and beyond who would like to make a donation to our centenary commemoration fund. Our committee is a community based, non-political group of volunteers from the Duhallow and surrounding  area who wish to mark the centenary of the historical event that was the Clonbanin Ambush. The aim of the committee is to renovate the existing monument and to erect an information board at Clonbanin on the original site of the ambush on the main Mallow Killarney road. Due to health and safety regulations and in keeping with N.R.A guidelines, new structures are not permitted on the main road meaning it will not be possible to hold events on the original site of the Ambush. Therefore it is proposed by the committee to erect a new monument and information boards in the Derrinagree Church car park, which is the site supported by Cork Co Council.

The Clonbanin Ambush was an engagement between the forces of the British Empire and the Cork and Kerry Brigades on the 5th of March, 1921.  Historically, it has been recorded as a victory for the Volunteers of the IRA.

The proposed project also involves our committee producing a publication outlining this significant local event.

Eily’s Report – 14th July

Dia is Mhuire díobh go léir a chairde, and welcome to my report.

New seasons gooseberry jam and fresh homemade bread. Can you think of anything nicer? Nicer of course because of the wonderful taste, but nice also that a little bush in one’s own garden can produce such wonderful food in a matter of a few months. Raspberries, strawberries, not to mention the succulent green peas that have grown in a bucket are all yielding good returns. I planted twelve pea seeds all around the rim of a bucket full of compost and waited for them to grow, which they did and when they grew high I staked them with bamboo canes and lattice wire.They grew over six feet tall and are now hanging down with the weight of their crop. The great thing about doing this sort of thing is that people who have no more than a doorstep or balcony can enjoy the fruits of nature just as good as landowners. My crop may never see the pot but when I’m passing I can help myself to a large or small helping of lovely green peas. The magpie has taken a great liking to my raspberries. He  sizes up his target, which could be as much a four feet above him and take aim. I watched him from the window and he never once failed to land his prey. I don’t deter him. We are all entitled to our share. I have a rather interesting fruit coming on that didn’t ripen yet. It’s a cross between a gooseberry and a blackcurrant which we picked up in some garden center years ago, very tasty when its ripe.

“Radio Treasures” Tonight with Focus on Eugene, Denis & Bumbleance

Tonight on “Radio Treasures” broadcast on Cork Music Station 9:30 to 11:00pm we feature our regular items with a blend of uplifting songs and music.    Being “Bloomsday” 16th June 2020 we hear Frank Patterson with one of the songs from James Joyce’s “The Dead”.

Our 10pm Interview is Library related when we meet a gentleman who has become quite famous on television and the media because of his hugely important input for the Library Service during COVID-19.   Representing the Library inputs we meet with Denis Tangney who introduces Eugene Bradley.

Tubrid Holy Well to Reopen from 6pm This Sunday

To the great joy of so many Tubrid Holy Well – Centre of Prayer and Haven of Peace – will reopen to the public from 6pm this Sunday, 7th June 2020.  We thank James O’Sullivan on whose land Tubrid is located for this uplifting update.   James emphasises that the usual COVID-19 safety measures are expected to be observed by Visitors to the Holy Well.  (S.R.)

Reopening of St. Patrick’s Church Millstreet Greatly Welcomed

On Tuesday, 20th May 2020 St. Patrick’s Church, Millstreet was reopened as Phase One lifting of COVID-19 restrictions permitted.   Here we share nine images where we note health and safety measures are very much in place within the Church.   This reopening event was greatly welcomed.  Tap on the images to enlarge.  (S.R.)

Jeremiah O’Connor, Coolikerrane

The death has occurred of Jeremiah O’Connor, Coolikerrane, Millstreet, formerly of Kilnahulla, Boherbue and Lombardstown. Peacefully, at Nazareth House, Mallow, on Wednesday 20th May 2020. Beloved brother of the late Sonny, Jim, Paddy and Mick. Lovingly remembered by his nieces Josie, Mary, Ann, nephew Dan, relatives and friends. [rip]

In an effort to follow best practice and guidelines Jeremiah’s funeral will be private. We thank you for your co-operation and understanding at this difficult time. Messages of sympathy may be left on the R.I.P. Condolence Page.

Thunder and Lightening

We were warned about slow moving thundershowers with lightening, and that’s what we got. For two hours there was lots of noise, lots of flashes, and heavy showers, as cold air moved in on our lovely warmth. It feels like summer is rolling in 🙂 The picture below shows the lightening strikes from 4:30 – 5pm.
