Conor Hartnett teaching Soccer in Rio de Janeiro

2014-06-10 Conor Hartnett with Carlao and kids at their concrete pitch in RioSays Conor: ‘‘FIFA is doing a great job taking the game away from the people.’’ Two years ago, Irish-born Conor had an epiphany. After finishing work as a business analyst at Westpac in Kent Street, Sydney, he needed to kill time before training with Balmain Old Boys, who play in the Canterbury league. He typed ‘‘round-the-world ticket’’ into Google and volunteering abroad came up. ‘‘Guys, I’m moving to Rio,’’ he told his teammates when he arrived at training that night.
Conor, 39, now partners with two organisations in Rio. IASESPE, with which he helps children aged between three and 14, and Carlao’s Football Project, which involves a hundred kids.

Commiserations to Kate O’Keeffe, who has been starring for the Cork Minor A Camogie team but unfortunately lost the All Ireland Final Replay to Limerick last Saturday. Kate scored 3-1 in the drawn final, and 1-3 in the replay

Well done to Kate O’Keeffe and the Cork Minor A Camogie team who won the Munster title beating Tipperary on a score of Cork 7-12 Tipperary 6-11. Kate scored an important goal when Cork were under pressure in the first half, in a match where Cork were behind for most of the match, but scored 1-5 without reply at the end of the match. Rallying: Rally of the Lakes:  Denis Moynihan from Ballydaly won the Historic Section of the Rally,its a counting round of the Prestigious European Historic Rally championship and attracted entries from all over Europe. Mark Falvey was running in second place in this section as well until he retired on Sunday.

Noel Buckley and Mairéad Daly who officially turned on the lights for the first time while further member of the Astro Turf Committee attended on Thursday, 17th October 2013. Chloé Collins has seen lots of action with the Cork U14 teams recently. Last week she was on the Cork U14 Camogie team playing in Ennis. This weekend she was on the Cork U14 Football team that won a blitz in Mullingar this weekend, beating Kerry by four points in the final. Next weekend she’s back in action with the footballers as they attempt to beat Kerry in the Munster Championship Final replay.
