Rallying: Charlie Drake had a tough weekend at the ARC Quit Forest Rally over the weekend, lost six minutes with a puncture, a major oil leak, and rear brakes that weren’t working properly conspired to push him down the field.[see the 5 rally videos below]

Athletics: In the Cork BHAA UCC 10k road race (Sun 1st Apr 2012), two Millstreet runners were running for their employers. Out of a field of 513,  Donal Coffey running for Pilz finished in 8th position in a time of 34:01, and Tony Kelleher, running for the CSO finished in 27th in a time of 36:44. [see the videos of them below]

GAA Scór: A huge congratulations to the Millstreet GAA Novelty Act who won the Munster Scór Sinsir final in Tempelmore last Saturday night. They will compete in the All-Ireland Final on April 23rd in the INEC in Killarney. Commiserations to the Millstreet GAA Quiz team who came second on the night, and also to John O’Sullivan from St.Johns GAA Club who failed to progress in the recitation.

Boxing: Seán Óg O’Connor (boxing for Rylane Boxing Club) lost his All-Ireland Boys ‘4’ 52Kg Quarter-Final to Conor Burns of the Holy Trinity Boxing Club (Belfast) on a points total of 13-6

Rallying: Charlie Drake was competing in the round 1 of the Australian Rally Championship – Rally Calder. On the first day (Friday) he was ‎1.8 seconds off 3rd, and 17 seconds off the overall lead heading into last stage of the day, where he broke gear linkage in 5th, had some flames from the car, and had to retire 🙁 [see videos of Charlie driving at the 2012 ECB Rally Calder at the bottom of this post]

Greyhounds: Donie O’Mahony’s dog Millridge Ranger ran an impressive 525 time of 29:51 to take the first race in Tralee, coming from well back in third at the first bend to win by three lengths. see the video below:

Donegal International Rally: Daniel Lucey/Conor O’Flynn (#115) in their Ford Escort Mk1, who were featured on millstreet.ie last week, made it to stage 23 of 24 but didn’t finish the rally after climbing to 7th position in the National Class to that point.

Charlie Drake (pictured right) made a return to the Australian Rally Championship over the weekend after a big crash last year (see the crash videos). He was competing in the QUIT Forest Rally 2011, but was forced out in the long 19km third stage of day two, while making steady progress up the classifications to seventh position.

Clara Mountain Run 2011 – Photos

Local runners Donal Coffey, Brian Murphy and Donal Cashman pictured rounding the cross at the top of Clara this evening in the Clara Mountain Run 2011. A beautiful evening with for running. Donal Coffey was in the lead at the cross on top of the mountain despite going a little off course on the way up, but unfortunately was soon passed on the way down. Results will be posted in the next few days when available.

John Tarrant was also at the Start/Finish line taking photos and sent us the  two photos above of the runners starting off and Paul Tierney coming in to the finish line to take win.

On Sunday evening, the Irish Mountain Running Association are holding the annual race up and down Clara Mountain from Millstreet.The entry fee is €10 and the race starts at 7pm. Registration is in the GAA Hall.

It is almost time for the MONSTERMAC adventure race.

Running races and feel like something different?

8km trail run : Road Bike 25km and Kayak 400m is possible if you can run the Glebe (8km)

Munster Schools Cross Championships

Cathal Crowley, Paul O’Connor, Billy Cronin, Oisin Murphy, Kashif Admad, Muireann Murphy, Aideen Buckley, and Ellie Dineen who have been competing for Millstreet Community School in the Munster Cross Country Championships recently.

The junior boys cross country team were bronze medalists at the recent south munster schools cross country championships and finished sixth overall in the munster championships held in the CIT grounds on Thursday 17th February. [read more …] “Munster Schools Cross Championships”
