Donagh, Darragh, and Harry, are currently helping to raise awareness of testicular cancer by asking men to complete their short cancer awareness survey. This is a part of the research for their BT Young Scientist project which they hope to be presenting in Dublin next January. A brave project to take on, but one that could actually save lives. What qualifications might the pupils have got in Domestic Science or kindred subjects? I would be grateful for any information to put in her obituary that will be needed any day.

Scoil Laithiarain is a summer school which takes place every July in Cullen with the aim of encouraging children to speak Irish daily through Irish classes, games, song, dance and quizzes. A Bake Sale will take on Saturday 15th December in Millstreet Parish Centre after 6.30pm Mass.
Caoimhe O’Leary, Emma Brady, Michelle O’Riordan and Sarah Bourke are 5th year students at Millstreet Community School. They will be joining the IHCPT pilgrimage to Lourdes for a week at Easter 2019. They follow in a long line of students who have travelled as helpers for the Easter Pilgrimage and who have all come back with glowing reports about the experience.
As in previous years, fundraising events will be held to help cover the flight and accommodation costs for their week in Lourdes (€670/person). The Bake Sale is the first of these. Your support is appreciated.

Our project has been selected for the BT Young Scientist competition, The title of the project is ” The effects of psoriasis on adolescent mental health in 2018″ As a teenager with the condition, the topic is of personal interest to a group member and we believe that the stress it causes is overlooked in its treatment. Thank you to everyone who supported the Trad for Trócaire event that took place in Millstreet Community School on Friday 9th November. It was a great evening of traditional song and music performed by the students, from 1st year all the way up to Leaving Certs. Ms Janet Twomey (Trócaire, Cork) spoke about the type of projects that would benefit from money raised from the evening. The event raised a total of €410 for Trócaire’s work. Thank you for your generosity.

The Community School Under 16 soccer outfit under new coach Mr O’Síodhcháin hit the ground running and began the Munster with an emphatic win at the Town park on Monday, October 22nd. Eoin Guiney had a hat-trick before the break, and scored again in the second half in a game that was never in doubt. Opponents Newcastlewest got one back at 3-0, but Guiney’s fourth meant their second was only a consolation . Millstreet now eagerly await their next game, the Munster quarter final. [1]
Congratulations to Tia Kiely (Transition Year) in Millstreet Community School whom was selected by the State Examinations Commission to participate in the National Olympiads taking place in Dublin City University in November. We wish her all the best.
Recently, I spent several hours looking through photos in the Millstreet Museum. I was thrilled when I found one that included my Dad. I was wondering if I could get some help from the Millstreet community in identifying the others in this picture. My Dad, Timothy Joseph Kelleher (b. 1933 in Liscreagh) is standing, fourth in from the far right. I know that Noel C. Duggan and Willie Neenan were in my Dad’s class but I think this picture includes younger guys also. My Dad was very proud of the fact that he stayed in school and did his Leaving Cert. Would love to find a picture of his Leaving Cert class, if it exists, but any and all info about this picture would be greatly appreciated.
