Millstreet Museum & Tourist Information Centre Church Gate Collection This Weekend

Millstreet Museum & Tourist Information Centre Church Gate Collection takes place this weekend – 13th & 14th August 2011outside St. Patrick’s Church, Millstreet.   This is our main source of funding for the year.    It is earnestly hoped that we shall be back at our Carnegie Hall location very shortly.   Most of our Archives have now been moved to the new purpose built Museum Archive Centre at Mount Leader.   We deeply appreciate the fact that the vast volume of our historic material was very kindly housed on a temporary basis and without cost by the Duggan Family of Green Glens for almost the past three years.     Support for our Collection this weekend would be greatly appreciated so as to assist us in the re-establishment of our Museum at Carnegie Hall and for the provision of a significant Tourist Information Centre.    Sincere thanks.  (S.R.)

Millstreet Methodist Update August

Hello again to everyone. Hopefully you are all enjoying the wonderful “Irish” summer!! Of course these days we are being reminded that the weather is not the only thing we can’t control. It seems that all the news these days is about huge monetary figures that are far beyond our imagination. These are uncertain days and we are certainly being reminded that we cannot rely on material possessions as a secure foundation for our lives. In these days I often think of the words from the Bible found in 1 Peter 1:3-4 “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth in to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade – kept in heaven for you….” It’s wonderful to know that if our personal trust is in Jesus Christ then we can have certainty in this world and the next.
Our meetings in Millstreet continue this month on Sundays 14th and 28th August at 7.00 p. m. meeting, as always in the Canon O’Donovan Centre (kindly granted) on Clara Road in Millstreet town. [read more …] “Millstreet Methodist Update August”

On The Passing Of Dick Kiely

Dick Kiely was the principal teacher when I was in primary school
And he seemed quite impartial and with fairness he did rule
He did not have his favourites as some other teachers had
A good and honest fellow and in him nothing bad.

A famous gaelic footballer when he was in his prime
But I never see him playing it was before my time
By all accounts the mighty Dick was a renowned athlete
One of the famous sportsmen for to represent Millstreet.

Helping to Keep Millstreet Clean

Millstreet is looking good!

Sincere thanks to all those who are helping us to gain points in this year’s Tidy Towns competition….

by cleaning, painting and maintaining your home, shops etc.;

by displaying window boxes, hanging baskets and by planting flowers;

by not dropping litter and cigarette butts on our streets.

Now we ask you to go one step further – by cleaning/brushing outside your home, apartment or business premises each day.

We are aiming to win our category this year.

It can happen with your help.

Show your pride …. Keep Millstreet clean!

White Country Crafts

from Ruth Gettings of White Country Crafts:
  • I am opening a craft shop in Kanturk which will be called White Country Crafts selling local – preferably Duhallow -crafts. I am looking for quality suppliers – small or large volume – to sell their crafts there. I would provide up to one section of slatwall 8′ x4′ and suppliers could put their own small table in front of that with whatever display and promotional material they want. You wouldn’t have to be in the shop personally!!! I would be asking a small weekly fee or small % which ever suits people best. Planning to open on 2nd August or if not certainly 11th August for my birthday!! Obviously cant tell how it will go or promise anything with regard to sales etc but the shop is on the main street right opposite pedestrian crossing so good footfall.
  • I only intend to have one supplier of each craft unless widely different. I myself make crochet blankets, knitted hats and a few baby cardigans and small cards.
  • I have 3rd party insurance but would be up to each supplier to insure goods – or not – as they wish.
  • If you are interested or have any questions or suggestions please email me at <email> or call (029) 58843 or (086)3183961.
