Weather Makes Such a Difference!

People were most generous towards our church gate collection this weekend in aid of The Friends of Mallow Hospital Special Equipment Fund. Here we see Mary Kelleher and Breeda O'Leary who very kindly helped to coordinate the collection on both days. Here on Saturday night we were blessed but just look (below) at the effect the high winds and rain had on us on this morning! Weather certainly makes a big difference. The Los Zarcos Car Boot Sale was also affected by this morning's challenging weather. Later in the week we shall report on the full amount collected for the praiseworthy cause. “Divine Painting” over Millstreet Skies by Fr. James McSweeney

What an amazing skyscape has been captured by Fr. James McSweeney (www.2u.ie) over Clara Mountain and Millstreet yesterday evening. I must say that lots of people were commenting on the magnificent sky over the area yesterday evening. Many thanks, Fr. James. Click on the image to enlarge. (S.R.)

Flooding on Friday in Macroom

Following extremely heavy rain in the Macroom area on Friday evening a temporary flood resulted and traffic stopped until the main roadway leading to Cork was quickly cleared.  The road was cleared with the excellent assistance of the Gardaí, road authorities and residents.  (S.R.)

The River Finnow in the Current Wet Weather Conditions

The usually gentle-flowing River Finnow assumed a much wider and fast-flowing appearance following the significant amounts of recent rain falling. (S.R.)

Our pictures were taken from the Bridge at Clara Road on Wednesday, 15th August showing both sides where the sound of fast-flowing water was very much in evidence.  (S.R.)

She’d be a lovely little country if you could only roof it!

Well there went our summer! Listening to Radio 1 this morning, weatherman Gerard Fleming forecast about 100mm of rain up to tomorrow (friday) afternoon on the Cork / Kerry border. We had about 30mm last night, so we’ve a bit to go yet, and add in some high winds tonight too … but it seems to be just coming and coming! To put it into perspective, in the very bad flooding in June 2009, we got 92mm, though in the space of a few hours.

All the same, look the video below which might give you a laugh, and make you forget about it … for a short while 😉 … [read more …] “She’d be a lovely little country if you could only roof it!”

There’s a Brrrrrr in the Air over Millstreet Today….It’s no (Snow) Joke!

T
Millstreet experienced snow, ice and very cold temperatures this Friday morning (16/12/2011). Here we view Cashman's Park in the distance covered in snow as viewed from Mount Leader Estate, Clara Road.

Thankfully weather forcasters indicate that while we have very cold temperatures at the moment it is totally unlike the arctic conditions we all experienced last Christmas.    It is to become milder during next week.   Here we share some images taken at [read more …] “There’s a Brrrrrr in the Air over Millstreet Today….It’s no (Snow) Joke!”
