Millstreet Country Park Re-Opens This Sunday April 6th

Millstreet Country Park will kick off a new season this year with the hosting of the All Ireland Schools Orienteering Championships, which will be held in the Park on Wednesday 9th April.

The All Ireland Schools Championships are organized by Bishopstown Orienteering Club and is expected to draw large numbers of students to the Park.

In addition The Park will host the Millstreet Walking Festival on Sunday 13th April and the Monster Mac will talk place on Saturday 26th April

Adult Membership this year is €20.00  and under 16s are free.

 

New Season Begins on Sunday 6th April and opening times are Wednesday to Sunday from 11.00 am to 7.00pm.

Restaurant open Sundays, café midweek.

Official Launch of Horse Carriage Drive 2014Official Launch of Horse Carriage Drive 2014A marvellous Dalmation Dog will be following the horse carriage.   On Sunday we noted how similar in colouring were the very patient horse and the dog!   Here we view some further images from the official launch.   The fundraising is of course in aid of Cancer Research and all funds will be directed to the Cork Centre where such excellent research work is being carried out.   Aghinagh Macra na Feirme will be lending very valuable support during the Drive which takes place from 9th to 19th July 2014.  We recorded the launch event for LTV2 which will be broadcast soon and will give people an opportunity to hear the splendid addresses shared by such coordinators for Breakthrough Cancer Research as Orla Dolan, BSc MBS.   More information will follow closer to the [read more …] “Official Launch of Charity Horse Carriage Drive from Malin to Mizen 2014”

Barndance at the Briery Gap

“Barndance” Presented by local group the Sullane Players.  This play takes place in  the 27th, 28th & 29th of March at 8.00pm.  A must see comedy production. “The old ways are best” is a precept which is challenged by this play, on many levels.  It looks at family relationships and also the theme of emigration in Ireland.  Tickets are €12.00/Concession €10.00.

In addition, Briery Gap Youth Theatre are performing “Rhythm of the night”.  The young stars are carrying out great work themselves both on stage and on the production side of things.  It takes place on Friday 21st and Saturday the 22nd of March at 8.00pm.  Tickets are €10.00/students €8.00.

Sullane Sessions at the Briery Gap

photo of Oliver Cole and guests The Shaker HymnCurrently running at the Briery Gap, Macroom are the “Sullane Sessions”, a new series of intimate gigs highlighting the best in national and international singer songwriters.

The series kicked off on Saturday 24th May with the enchanting Katie Kim and support from Joan Shelley, and continues on June 13th with Oliver Cole & Guests The Shaker Hymn, 25th July with Daniel Martin Moore & Guests Jackson Dyer & Ghost Town Jenny, and 23rd August with John Blek & The Rats, with further dates to be announced.

Following an extensive renovation programme in 2013, including a state of the art lighting and sound system, new theatre seating and refurbished Theatre Bar, Briery Gap has focused on delivering a broad and diverse programme of events. According to Ann Dunne, Manager of Briery Gap, “The Sullane Sessions series will be a fantastic addition to the theatre and will attract yet another new audience to Briery Gap, further demonstrating our commitment to attracting the best in musical talent”

The Maiden Aunt

Ahakeera Drama Group present “The Maiden Aunt”.  Gertie, has been in hospital for some time but is now coming to stay with her niece, Mary, who attempts to get her hands on Gertie’s money. With many twists and turns this is a must see, hilarious play! This event takes places on Friday 14th of March at 8.00pm at the Briery Gap Theatre in Macroom.

Catering at the European Juggling Championships

EJC_2014_whiteThe organisers of the European Juggling Championships which take place in Millstreet from the 19th to the 27th of July 2014, are seeking food vendors to supply food on site for the EJC festival.

These are the sort of numbers they’re talking about:

  • Customers who live on site for the entire week and require 3 meals a day, as well as snacks and drinks. Day-trippers also attend.
  • Anticipated attendance of 1,500-2,500 jugglers.

MonsterMac Adventure Race

 

Join Ireland’s unique adventure race on Saturday 26th April 2014. With a varied mix of challenging on road biking, off road running and a short kayak section, it is set to get the hearts racing on either the 64km MonsterMAC EXPERT category, the somewhat shorter 33km BigMAC SPORT category or the 20km “BabyMAC” event which is achievable by anyone looking for their first ever adventure challenge.

“Voice of the Glen 2014” Begins Saturday at 8pm

The Voice of the Glen opens in the Glen Theatre on this Saturday night at 8pm. Involving 66 singers nominated by clubs, groups and business outlets from Cork County and beyond, the hosting promises much entertainment during the coming weeks.
