There Is Far More To Millstreet

There is far more to Millstreet and to Millstreet Town
Than show jumping or elite sportspeople who brought to the place renown
In Duhallow near Sliabh Luachra it is known far and wide
For it’s hospitable people in a scenic countryside.
.
When people ask me what part of Ireland I come from to them I always say
From Claraghatlea near Millstreet Town far north and far away
In view of Clara Mountain overlooking Claramore
Though I’ve not seen the old homeplace for three years with a score.

Unveiling in Kilcorney

Last Sunday in blistering sunshine, Kilcorney unveiled a commemorative plaque to honour of the visit of Cardinal William Levada to his great-grandmothers home-place in Kilcorney on Easter Sunday 2008. The unveiling happened after 10:30am mass which was celebrated by Fr Winter and concelebrated by Monsignor Mulcahy (an uncle of Donie Howard), and the unveiling was performed by Aiden Horgan, a relative of Cardinal Levada.

Monsignor Mulcahy gave a very interesting sermon which detailed Cardinal Levada’s (the Pope’s right hand man)  life, how he ministered with him in Santa Monica (California), and how he rose to his current position of Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. He also talked about his great-grandmother Kate Horgan who had emigrated across the Atlantic all those years ago from Horsemount, and crossed the USA and settled in California.

A large crowd gathered outside St Nicholas Church immediately after the mass for the [read more …] “Unveiling in Kilcorney”

Artisan Food and Craft Market

Last Saturday brought a delightful Artisan Market in the Square. There were some really mouth-watering foods on offer as the smell of cooking in the open-air filled the square, and there was something for everyone on offer. The market was a very welcome addition for the day, and it was well attended, with a nice crowd browsing the stalls through the afternoon. It’s something we are sure that people would like to see more of.
