Lourdes Quiz 2025 Fundraiser Wonderfully Successful

At the very welcoming setting of Corkery’s Bar, Millstreet the annual Lourdes Quiz 2025 Fundraiser which was held on Friday, 7th Nov. was wonderfully successful.  One of the main Coordinators, John Magee, Chaplain at Millstreet Community School shared the following report of the very enjoyable event:

“Many thanks to everyone who attended the Table Quiz held in Corkery’s Bar on Friday 7th November.  It was in aid of the three 5th years from Millstreet Community School, Katie O’Keeffe, Mike O’Donoghue and Caoilfhionn O’Connor who will be going on Lourdes as student helpers for a week during their Easter holidays 2026 with Rise and Shine (formerly known as the Irish Pilgrimage Trust).  They’ll be travelling with the Cork Group 126.  The cost of their travel/accommodation for the week is €795/person and the aim is to cover these costs.  Any money raised beyond €2385 will then go towards the fundraising efforts of Group 126,  Each group raises money to cover the costs of the young people with special needs who will travelling to Lourdes. This can amount to as much as €14,000.  All other helpers (apart from student helpers) have to cover their own travel/accommodation costs.”

“Twenty-three teams took part in the quiz and over €2100 was raised.  Donations were still coming in at the end of the night.  I’d like to express my gratitude to: Patrick and Caroline Corkery for allowing us to use the bar for the quiz – we couldn’t have done it without your help; John Tarrant for the excellent quiz questions and for publicising the event, along with Seán Radley on Millstreet.ie; to all those who sponsored the raffle prizes; to the members of staff of Millstreet Community School who helped make everything run smoothly: Denise O’Leary, Bernie McAuliffe, Eileen Lyons, Marion Buckley and Francy Lyons;  Jennifer O’Donoghue was the Quizmaster;  to the families of the three young people who put in so much effort before and during the quiz, and to the members of the community, young and older, who came out in such numbers to support Mike, Caoilfhionn and Katie by taking part in the quiz. Thank you so much.

Magnificent Response to our Museum & Website Fundraiser

A million thanks to the many hugely generous contributors to our Millstreet Museum & Community Website Fundraiser which we only launched on Thursday, 6th Nov. 2025 (just two days ago!) and it has already reached in excess of €5,000.00 ! which will already cover our expenses for the coming year.  We shall continue the fundraising until the end of November permitting extra contributions to help defray the cost of future years so that we shall not have to appeal for any extra funding until that fund is depleted.   To follow the progress of our fundraising please refer to our GoFundMe page.  In addition to our GoFundMe project people have been contributing in cash such as the recent anonymous kind Donors of €100 and of €50.  Renewed thanks to All Our Very Generous Contributors who will be personally thanked for such encouraging support towards two Community Services – our Museum and our Millstreet Community Website indicating in such a concrete manner their sincere appreciation of both Services.  Below we share two images from our Museum Pictorial Archive.  These two wonderfully historical images which will evoke very special memories were very kindly presented by the late Jerry Lehane from the original Photographic Archive of the late Tadhg O’Driscoll.  The images refer to a Corpus Christi Procession of the 1950s making its way up Main Street to the temporary altar at The Square.  Having been born in 1951 I can recognise quite a few!  Tap on the photos to enlarge.  (Seán Radley)

Supporting Our Museum & Millstreet Community Website

It’s been five years since we have appealed for funding in support of the continuation of Millstreet Museum and our Millstreet Community Website.  Both services are operated on an entirely voluntary basis except for the fact that the Government Social Employment Scheme provides an Assistant Curator for almost twenty hour per week at the MuseumSince 2020 our costs have almost doubled and to presently operate both services it involves an expenditure of in excess of €4,000. 00 per annum.   Our funds are now almost used and a boost in our fund would certainly help to maintain the services.   We thank the committed team of Volunteers who give of their talents and time.

We are setting up a Go Fund Me page to afford people the opportunity of supporting the two local community-based voluntary servicesMillstreet Museum & Millstreet Community Website.   Running costs at our Museum include the annual insurance of €2,000.00 plus lighting, heating and development expenses while for the Millstreet Community Website we have hosting and domain name costs plus security software.

One can visit our Go Fund Me page by clicking  this Go Fund Me link.

Our main source of funding for Millstreet Museum and the Millstreet Website pre-2020 was through an Annual Church Gate Collection in August.  Due to COVID-19 we established a GoFundMe project which was hugely successful due to the wonderful generosity of so many people at home and on a global basis.   Thus we extend an invitation to our Supporters to kindly consider contributing towards this Go Fund Me appeal so that we, as Volunteers, can continue to make our Museum and Website Services available.   The running costs are quite substantial….in excess of €4,000.00 per annum.  This is our only source of fundingWe greatly appreciate any contribution received.    Sincere thanks also for the wonderful words of encouragement we constantly receive regarding the provision of these two community-based important Services.   Míle buíochasSeán Radley, Curator Millstreet Museum & Team Member of Millstreet Website.

One may also contribute to our fundraising project in the following manner:

  1.  By cheque made payable to Millstreet Museum.
  2. By transfer to our Bank of Ireland accountBIC: BOFIIE2DXXX  IBAN: IE22BOFI 905 803 340 53143
  3. By contribution at Millstreet Museum.

Fundraiser for Millstreet Community School Lourdes Project 2025

Around twenty-five Fifth Years from Millstreet Community School have taken part in the Easter Pilgrimage to Lourdes since the link with Rise and Shine (formerly known as the Irish Pilgrimage Trust) was established back in 2011.  They go as helpers with Cork Group 126 and they return home afterwards tired but left with amazing memories after their week in France.

There are now three 5th year students from Millstreet Community School who will be participating in the Rise and young people’s pilgrimage to Lourdes during their Easter holidays 2026. Katie O’Keeffe and Caoilfhionn O’Connor have now been joined by Mike O’Donoghue.

As was the case in the past, the aim is to cover accommodation and travel costs for the three students (around €750/person) with all extra funds being passed onto Group 126.  The group is meant to raise €19,000 to cover the costs of all the young people with special needs who travel with them to Lourdes.

The first fundraising venture will be a table quiz.  This will be held in Corkery’s Bar, Millstreet on Friday 7th November 2025, beginning at 8pm. €40/table of four.

Your support for this event would be greatly appreciated.
