The Mountain

The Mountain
The mountain braces the horizon with a stoic impression that stirs my imagination and senses. How could I be so far away yet have such a felt sense of presence and belonging?  The undulation of its form has been a constant due north of my internal compass, firmly imprinted on my mind and the bedrock of many stories that moulded my paternal lineage.
Its craggy terrains and sweeping valleys play host to formidable sheep confronting my presence should I interrupt their ramblings.  Golden amber hues married with bursts of vibrant heather brace the cold ground whilst streams of mountain water forge their impression on the course landscape a bold yet subtle nod to life.
An isolated farm stimulating the query of man’s ability to live in a seemingly harsh environment, and how many ancestors had walked this stoney ground before? My quiet contemplation is enveloped with bellowing mountain air sweeping and coursing my body and mind, taking with it the need for thought.  Looking out over Mushera’s vast expanse I listen for the sounds of my people and their distant musings, when a quiet voice stirs inside me and whispers, ‘I am home’.
My father and his family are natives of Aubane and I was inspired by my connection to the land and my summers there as a child.

Interesting Article from Mushera Wind Aware

Stonehenge World Heritage Site.
In the August 2022 edition of National Geographic there is a very detailed article on the Stonehenge Heritage site in the UK. This is a world renowned site.
What is interesting for us is that the article is accompanied by a map of the UK & Ireland which depicts areas in both countries with the greatest densities of stone circles and we, in the Mushera / Ballinagree area are smack dab in the middle of one of only two areas listed in Ireland. We already knew that we are actually living in the area with the greatest density of archeological treasures in Europe but to have this acknowledged by such a prestigious publication is gratifying to say the least. And yet there are those that propose to plunder this rich heritage by replacing it or damaging it with wind turbines. Where is the sense in that mindset. ONCE IT IS GONE, IT IS GONE.
This is why wind turbines on Mushera / Ballinagree can never be acceptable.

Message of Thanks and Further Information from Mushera Wind Aware Group

Mushera Wind Aware.
On Saturday February 26th. we gave people the opportunity to sign a petition against a wind farm in Ballinagree/ Mushera Mountain. We would like to thank everyone who turned out to support us and everyone who helped in any way. We will not name names because  we would definitely leave somebody out but we are greatful for all the support.

We were also delighted to welcome Liadh Ni Riada, Sinn Fein candidate for Cork North West who came from Coolea to assure us of her continuing support.

We know that many people were not able to make it to sign the petition on Saturday so with that in mind, they can text their name and address to any one of the following numbers and we will add them to the petition.

087 412 6175

087 640 3530

or
086 062 1269

A lot of people asked about a public meeting and why we haven’t held one. The fact is that we are afraid to in case we would be the cause of an outbreak of Covid. This restricts us very much because we know that many of you want to get involved and help fight this proposed development. We are doing the best we can by making opportunity available to sign the petition.

Again thanks to everyone.
