Accommodation required for school retreat team members o/n 17th November, Millstreet

There will be a retreat for 2nd year and Junior Cert students on Tuesday 18th November in Millstreet Parish Centre.  It will be run by NET Ministries, a group of Catholic young adults who run schools retreats around Ireland.  NET teams have been with us in Millstreet running retreats for each of the last seven years.

For the last two years, the team members have been accommodated by local families on the night before the retreat.  We are doing the same this year.  Accommodation has been found for eight of the ten team members for Monday 17th November.  Thank you to those who will be welcoming them into their homes.  I still have two team members to find accommodation for.  If anyone can provide them with accommodation on Monday night, please contact John Magee at Millstreet Community School (029 70087). Thank you.

Thanks for supporting Bake Sale at Millstreet Community School

photo 3A big thank you to everyone who supported the Bake Sale in aid of the Marie Keating Foundation which took place in Millstreet Community School on Thursday 23rd October.  So many students, parents and teachers baked for the event – a magnificent team effort.  A wonderfully wide variety of cakes and buns were provided and thankfully everything baked was bought by 4pm!  Thanks also to everyone who bphoto 1ought items, especially to members of the community who were able to call into the school in the afternoon to make a purchase and have a cup of tea.  Two more words of thanks – one to the Transition Year ‘youth for justice’ group who organised the whole event and the other to Herlihy’s Centra for agreeing not to sell chocolate bars on the day in the school canteen and for donating a box of cookies to the sale.  A total of €687 was raised.  A fantastic achievement!

Accommodation request for retreat team o/n 17th March

The 1st and 2nd year students at Millstreet Community School have a retreat on Tuesday 18th March in Millstreet Parish Centre.  As I mentioned in a previous post, I am hoping to find simple accommodation for the team of 18-25 year  young adults who will be running the retreat.  There are ten of them and they belong to NET Ministries.  They are mostly from USA and Canada.

Thanks to those who have already volunteered to host pairs of the team.  I still have four to find accommodation for.  If there are two families able to give them accommodation and a simple meal on the evening of 17th March (they’ll be arriving in Millstreet at 7pm), and breakfast on the 18th March, that would be great.  They need to be back at the parish centre for between 8.00am or 8.15am.  If you can help please contact John Magee at Millstreet Community School on 029 70087 tomorrow (Friday), as we are closed on Monday.  Thank you.

A request for families to host retreat team in Millstreet

A retreat for 1st and 2nd year pupils from Millstreet Community School will take place on Tuesday 18th March 2014 upstairs in the Parish Centre Millstreet, beginning at 9am.

The day will be led by the National Evangelisation Team (NET) Ministries which is a non-profit, Catholic Youth Ministry.  Over the last number of years they have run retreats in a number of schools in Kerry Diocese and this will be the sixth year they’ll have been in Millstreet.

The NET team consists of 10 members: 6 girls, 4 boys, ranging from the ages of 18 to 25. This team of young adults spend a year away from their own families in USA and Canada to share their faith with the young people of Ireland.

We are looking for families to put up the team members in pairs during their time in Millstreet for one night: Monday 17th March, from 7pm.  Families willing to do so are asked to provide a simple meal and a place to sleep, which does NOT necessarily have to be a bed.  The team members have their own sleeping bag and pillow and are flexible with where they sleep for the night, be it floors, couches, or air mattresses. They’ll need to be a parish centre on 18th March by about 8/8.10am the next morning to get ready for their busy day.

They are not expecting to be waited on, but are rather geared towards spending time with the family and adapting to your normal routine.

If any families are able to host a pair of the team members for the night of 17th March, please contact John Magee (Chaplain, Millstreet Community School) on 029 70087.

Very successful Games Day held at Millstreet Community School

A most enjoyable afternoon of games took place on Monday 3rd March in Millstreet Community School library between 2-4pm.  It was organised by the Transition Year SVP Youth for Justice group and adults of all ages were invited to take part.  Games played included scrabble, monopoly, jenga, draughts and a variety of card games.  Refreshments included a beautiful selection of home baked buns and cakes provided by the participants.  Here are some photos from the event (click the images to see full size):

Table Quiz Total

Thanks to everyone who supported the table quiz which took place on Friday 31st January in The Wallis Arms.  An incredible total of €1618 was raised to help pay for the six students who are going to Lourdes at Easter with the Irish Pilgrimage Trust.

A lot of people were thanked at the quiz but it is worth mentioning a few again.  Firstly, John Tarrant for providing such a great set of questions – not too difficult, not too easy – and four sets of tie-breakers, all of which were needed!  Secondly, Billy, Nigel and the staff at The Wallis Arms for making us all welcome and for being so accommodating.  Thirdly, all those who sponsored raffle prizes.  A list of all the shops and businesses who did so was read out on the night. Lastly, to everyone who came along to take part or help out.  It was a really great effort!
