Eily’s Report – 29th November


Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to my weekly report.

These are the closing  days of November and the Christmas Spirit is already gearing up. Towns and villages all over the place are holding Christmas Markets and putting up the sparkling Christmas Lighting. And it all helps to curb the doom and gloom that  screams out to us from every every direction.

Our Christmas Market was held at the GAA Hall on Sunday and its an annual meeting place for old and young. A place to buy Christmas presents and to sit and have a friendly chat while the little ones were being entertained in another room.

This time of year also heralds the start of Advent when we are advised to pause in the middle of all the hype and remind ourselves that Christmas is really all about the Birth of Christ Our Saviour.

On Monday nights in the run up to Christmas  a reflection on the Sunday Gospels during the Advent Season is held at the Parish centre at 8 pm and all are welcome.


Further to that the Divine Mercy Advent Novena which started on Sunday last will continue each Sunday at 3pm.


A very important Public Meeting on Crime Prevention will be held at the Wallis Arms Hotel tonight  Nov.29th, Members of the Garda Siocana will attend and all those wishing to renew or join for the first time, the Millstreet Community Text alert System for 2017 are invited to attend. Please pass the word.  Meeting starts at 8.30.

Also tonight at the same venue the meeting on the setting up of the Millstreet Historic/Heritage Trail will be held at 8.30.

Our Active Retired Group held a fundraising Coffee Morning recently and last night November 28th they  presented  a cheque to Gerard Sheehan on behalf  to the Community Response Scheme.

Here are the results of this weeks parish lotto draw which was held at McCarthys Bar on Sunday night.Numbers drawn were 20,22,26,31 and the Jackpot was not won. €100 went to Donagh Tarrant, Liscreagh the seller was Mgt. Burke and she got €50 sellers prize. €50 went to Frank Brosnan, Rathmore. €20 each to Pat Corkery Coomligane, Mike Mullane, Rathcoole, Donal Cronin, Knocknakilla, Emma OMahony c/o mgt Burke, Paddy Connors, Ballinkeen, Maura Moylan, Coole, Peg Carroll Ballydaly, Kathleen Kelleher Aubane, Jackpot for next week €7,400 the draw at the Clara Inn on Sunday night.


Many Congratulations to Noreens Boutique in Millstreet on being awarded Best Woman-led Business at the recent  IRd Duhallow Awards Ceremony.

All the more reason to shop at home this Christmas. Our Shops and stores have invested heavily to ensure that Millstreet is the place to get all your Yuletime needs.

The town looks amazing with the Glitzy teddy at the town Square and all the trees lit up around him. While at the other end of town a Sparkling white swan  has to be seen to be believed. And the moving patterns on the walls of the Carnegie hall , deserve a special mention. So please give your town the support it deserves this year.


Mealwhile out in Carriginma this week, They have a wild Country & Western night on Friday, then on Saturday night Our Community Singers will be there to herald in the turning on of the Christmas lights. On Sunday after Mass they are holding a coffee morning in aid of the local Bus service from 11-1 , and following that they will the popular Peter Lane of Blackwater Sound fame to wile away the hours of the afternoon. Give them a call. They are great.


The December issue of Duhallow Today will be in the shops this week.

And for once only an issue of our old friend Clara News will be out for Christmas.

The 2017 calendar, organised by the Community Council is on sale at the usual outlets. Proceeds will be divided between the Mens Shed and the Pipe Band.

Millstreet Setdancers are holding a used clothing collection on Thursday Dec.1st from 5-7 pm and on Sat. Dec 3rd from 9-12noon.


Cullen and District Special Needs association will host their annual Mass and Christmas Party  on Saturday Dec. 3rd. Mass starting at 1.30  and all are welcome.


Eucharistic Adoration in Cullen every Thursday from 10am to 7.


A word from the Blood Donor Clinic  to thank the 88 people who gave blood at their recent visit to Millstreet.
