And the powers that be have left us know that funding has been allocated to improve the network of Walk/Cycle Ways in Roscommon and Galway to complete and further enhance the Beara Breifni Way. It has its root in Castletownbere and snakes away through beautiful countrysides and countless towns along its route. All to commemorate the epic walk of Donal Cam O Sullivan and his loyal subjects in 1604.

Well done to his namesake Jim O Sullivan of Castletownbere who never rested until this mammoth contract was finished.

Minister Michael Ring has allocated €730,000 for the work. In making the announcement he said that the BearaBrefni Way has the potential to become Ireland’s Own Camino Trail .

Our town is going from one phase of improvement to another.

In recent times we got a new Zebra Crossing plus many changes in the structure of our footpaths, which I have to say we found a bit baffling at first, but now that the dust has settled, in every sense of the word, we can see the thinking behind it all. Further to that we are due an upgrade in our public lighting system. Using the new LED product it will mean better, brighter illuminations.

Even the little grotto in the Macroom Road has got a face lift with more additions on the way. Many thanks to the local people who contribute to its upkeep in so many ways.

For months now refurbishing work has been ongoing at Reens Pharmacy on our Main St. But in spite of the work they still gave us their impeccable service. We wish them well in the final push to get the job completed.

This weekend we welcome to mighty Self-Build Show to the Green Glens on Saturday & Sunday. People with good accommodation can put their names on the list at the Green Glens.

Footnote , I have been asked to say that a man from Northern Ireland   is a regular visitor to our Equestrian Events over the years, and he stays long enough to take in the sights and scenes of Millstreet during his stay.

On a previous visit when he was here he climbed ClaraMountain. But due to an injured ankle he got stuck and could not make his way down. Then along came a lady and her daughter, they got their jeep , helped him to it and brought him to safety.

Needless to say he was very grateful and still is. And since then he has been trying to trace these kind ladies and to thank them by way of a meal out or a little gift or something to show his gratitude.

Her name was Mrs.Buckley, don’t know the girls name. Now there are lots of us, Mrs. Buckleys, so if the kind Mrs.Buckley would like to make herself known either publicly or in private, it would be great .

Jerry Lehane has long endeavoured to solve this mystry without success, so far. This man also left his particulars with Tarrants Bar. And that’s where I have to leave it. We await the outcome.
