  1. Greetings. My husband Peter, and I are travelling from New Zealand to Ireland in August 2017 on a retirement trip & I hope to contact some of my Irish relatives who I met in 1976 when I traveled as a student. Margaret Mary Kay nee Rodgers was my maternal grandmother born in NZ. Her mother was Hannah O’Shea and her first cousin was Joe O’Shea.I stayed with him and his wife Mary and son Denis Martin O’Shea in Kilcorney above their General Store. I met other family members: Dan O’Keefe (vet) and his wife Hannah O’Keefe in Kanturk with their four children – Margaret, Catherine, John & Daniel as well as John Joe O’Driscoll near Mallow and his son John, daughter-in-law Mary and their children Ian & Brian. Can you please let me know if there might be any extended family members still in the area who we could meet when we are in the Republic of Ireland next year to have an experience of our Irish roots. Thanks. Kind regards ~ Deirdri Costello (nee O’Brien)

    1. Hi Deirdri,

My name is Margaret (O’Shea) Jordan and I am related the O’Shea family you referred in your posting. I was excited to see your comment and I look forward to getting in touch with you directly. I am very much into family history and would love to share information etc. My email address is m.jordan246 at gmail dot com

The site doesn’t allow email addresses but I hope the above will work.

      Regards,
      Margaret

    2. Hi Deirdri
Their is still many O Shea’s in the area. If I am correct, the O Shea’s you stayed with lived alongside the creamery near Kilcorney. If so, many of the family have moved away from Kilcorney. Denis Martin is living in a village outside Cork City. Some of the O keefes are still in Katurk.I am not too sure but many years ago, they had a gathering of O Sheas and I think Denis Martins brother, a priest in England did a comprehensive family tree. I think this man still has a house in the Kilcorney area. Dont know if this is any help to you.

  2. Hi John. Thanks for your interest about my inquiry. I have had a very positive response from O’Shea family members with lots of connections being made between us all. I now have a copy of the family tree and have been able to add in the NZ information for families here. Once again thanks for taking the time to get in touch. Warm regards ~ Dee
