Upcoming Classes at the Secret Garden

The Secret Garden have seven upcoming gardening classes between now and June, on the topics of pruning, propogation, vegetables, maintainance, flowers, and bees. They’ve listed them all below:

Intensive Pruning Workshop – Saturday 27th February  10-3pm.

Price €40 (Includes light lunch, refreshments, handout).

Spring is a busy pruning time in the garden. This intensive one-day workshop will teach you the theory and techniques for general pruning. Specific pruning groups will include roses, fruit trees & bushes, ornamental trees & shrubs, climbers. This class will take place outside, so warm clothing and footwear is essential. This course will be run by Alan Pitcher, who has over three decades experience of gardening and teaching.

Propagation for Beginners Saturday 5th March  10-3pm.

Price: €45 (Includes light lunch, refreshments, handout & materials)

Fill your garden for less! Learn how to propagate your own plants  – you’ll do your own cuttings on the day, as well as sowing seed, all to take home with you.  You’ll also learn how to divide perennials and grasses. Thrifty gardening at its best!

 

Vegetable Growing for Beginners  (Module 1) Saturday 19th March10-3pm.

Price €40*  (Includes lunch, refreshments, handout).

Covering all the basics to get you started in the vegetable garden for the growing season.  Areas covered will include soil, growing veg from seed, growing potatoes, disease & pest control etc.  This class will take place outside, so warm clothing and footwear is essential.  This course will be run by Alan Pitcher, who has over three decades experience of gardening and teaching.

 

Garden Maintenance – Saturday 23rd April 10-4pm

This intensive course covers basic skills and knowledge required to manage your garden. It will cover the following:

Pest and Weed Control

Mulching

Feeding& Watering

General Lawn Care

Composting and Home-Made Feeds.

Soil Maintenance.

€45 Includes refreshments, lunch and handout.

 

Vegetable Growing for Beginners (Module 2) – Saturday 14th May 10-3pm.

Price €40* (Includes lunch, refreshments, handout).

Following on from Module 1, this will focus more on summer crops. Techniques and methods for maintaining vegetable production through the summer and into the autumn.  This class will take place outside, so suitable clothing and footwear is essential.  This course will be run by Alan Pitcher, who has over three decades experience of gardening and teaching.

 

Grow Your Own Cut-Flowers – Saturday 4th June 10-3pm.

An introduction to growing your own cut flowers, suitable for beginners. The day will cover choosing varieties to grow, sowing from seed, planting, staking, cutting and conditioning. You’ll also get to make your own hand-tied bunch of flowers to take home with you.

€55 includes refreshments, lunch, handout and flowers.

 

The Natural Bee Keeper: The Art of Non-Invasive Bee-KeepingSaturday 18th June 10-3pm.

Alan Pitcher, an experienced bee-keeper of 15 years, will explain in detail his method of bee-keeping which works in harmony with the bees’ natural rhythm. The day will also look at how you can improve your habitat for bees through planting, environment and ways of avoiding chemicals.

The course includes refreshments, two course lunch and handouts.
