Hammer about to fall on Willie O’Leary’s old shop

2015-11-10 The old Willie O'Leary SPAR shop on Main Street is for saleThe auction hammer is about to fall on Willie O’Leary’s old SPAR shop on Main Street. Unusually it’s being sold by an online auction which will end in a few days (3rd December 2015 at 7pm). You can follow the auction on munsterpropertyauction.ie

It’s made its reserve of 170K, and looks like changing hands so hopefully the shop/building will come to full use again. In it’s hayday before 2000 or so, this shop together with Spar across the road (where the eCentre now is) was the hub of shopping activity in the town. It’s one of a number of premesis around the area that are currently for sale. We probably haven’t seen so many premesis for sale since 1901 when the whole town went for auction after the British Landlord system fell apart, allowing households the opportunity to own their own homes.

Full details  of the auction from 1901 will hopefully be published in the coming weeks…. hopefully … !

In the 19th and early 20th Century the shop was run by the Andreae Family (full details on this article from 2013)
