Slowing down for the sake of our Children

Jake Brennan

In June of 2014 little Jake Brennan was knocked down by a speeding driver while playing outside his home on a cul-de-sac in Kilkenny. Since then his parents have been campaigning to have speed bumps and a maximum speed of 30km/hr mandatory in residential estates nationwide (50km/hr is the current speed limit).

Our local Councillors have been asked to set up five estates as a pilot scheme for the 30km/h limit, and they have chosen Drishane View in Millstreet.

It is hoped that this will be rolled out in 2015, sooner rather than later. It’s a great initiative to protect our children, but as ever getting some to slow down and cop on is easier said than done 😕
