Dia is mhuire diabh go leir a cairde and welcome to News Report 1239 from Millstreet.Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this cold and foggy Tuesday morning.

The National Dairy Show will be held at the Green Glens Arena on this Saturday October 18th.and as well as doing the serious business of judging the best of the country’s livestock, it will be a fun day for all the family. plus many trade stands. The huge restaurant will be serving succulent dinners and snacks .They always have the finest of beef on the menu on Show day. And out of doors there is plenty of parking and its free.

That’s the National Dairy Show 2014 at the Green Glens Arena on Saturday October 18th.

Then the annual Pony Owners Show will run on October 24, 25, & 26th. This is run every year for charity, and raises good money for lots of worthy causes.

And the SelfBuild Exhibition November 7/8/9th.

We have some lovely nominations this week. Congratulations to Sean Radley and Paddy Buckley Banteer who have been nominated by Age Action to attend a function in Dublin on Monday next October 20th. Some friends are to travel along with them .and please wish them the best of luck. MC on the night will be the very popular George Hook.

Further to that please wish every success to Gillian and Raymond Gilbourne who have been nominated in the Best Dressed Couple section of the Tia Maria Awards which will be held in Cork on November 8th.

A gala function was held at the Pub in Carriganima on Saturday night at which the proceeds of their recent walk were presented to the Matrons of both Millstreet & Macroom Hospitals. They got €1,000. Well done to all concerned.

As this is Breast Cancer awareness month, I’ve a note from the Community School to say that the Students are hosting a monster Cake sale on Thursday October 23rd in aid of the Marie Keating fund for Breast Cancer. They will be selling lovely buns and cakes in the School library and Canteen from 3 to 4 o clock. Please give them your best support.

And still with the community school. Three students Lauren Buiche, Jodi Barrett and Maria Lane have won a merit Award in the John Hooper Poster Competition and are off to Dublin on Thursday to receive their prize at the Department of Education.

I have a word from Mairead Daly to say that the2015 Little Women’s Christmas Annual Party will be at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Friday January 2nd.2015. Tickets will go on sale from mid-November. More details later.

And the date has been fixed for the launch of our Community Singers CD. It will take place at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Friday November 7th. A great program is planned for this momentous occasion. It’s a first for such an amateur group to take on the mammoth task of producing their own CD.

On the night there will be Bands and singing and food and a big celebration to mark the occasion.

Our Community Singers attended the 6.30 Mass on Saturday evening last. The church was crowded for the ceremony entitled “Do This in Memory of Me” when all the little children preparing for the First Holy Communion were accompanied by their parents, grandparents and friends. It was quite an International event .In his homily Canon John said that there were people from Poland, Rumania, Lithuania and Latvia present.

The church was beautifully decorated and lighted candles lined the alter rails. It was a beautiful ceremony .and well done to all who arranged it.

Our Parish Lotto draw was held at the Bush Bar on Sunday night. Numbers drawn were 8, 13, 21, 22 and the Jackpot was not won. €100 went to Mary Barrett,Carrigacooleen. The seller was Colemans and they got €50 sellers prize, €50 went The Randals Family Minor Row. €20 each went to Anna Hartnett, Clara Rd. Mary Lane, Drishane Rd. Michelle O Sullivan, Dooneen. Ester Dennehy Shanakiel, Joan Cremin Drishane View, Ester Angland Macroom, Leo Leader Kilcorney and Tommy Tucker, Ballydaly.

Jackpot for next week €14.800 the draw at Corkery’s Bar on Sunday Night.

The Glen theatre is busy as usual .This weekend on Friday night October 17th they have Lumineer with Seamus Begley and Saturday October 18th night they have the great Liam O Connor and guests .

Millstreet overcame Boherbue in the Rebel Óg North Cork Minor A Football Championship last night and progress to a semi-final against Buttevant in Kiskeam on this Thursday night at 7.30pm.

Meanwhile, excitement is building ahead of Millstreet’s clash against St. Finbarrs in the Co. Junior A Football Championship Final on Saturday week in Pairc Ui Rinn.
