On Friday next, October 10th, Banteer Ploughing Association will proudly unveil a new monument erected to celebrate the 50th anniversary since its founding in 1964. The event will coincide with the launch of a new book entitled “Fifty Years of Ploughing”. The book is a compilation of newspaper articles, photographs and score sheets relating to the involvement if Banteer Ploughing Association at local, national & international level over the past fifty years. The book will bring back many fond memories of Banteer Ploughing in times past. It is a culmination of months of hard work involving meetings, researching, gathering of old photographs and editing. This would not have been possible without Maura Walsh & the financial backing of IRD Duhallow who part funded the production.

The proceedings will begin on Friday with a Eucharistic celebration in the Church of St. Fursey, Banteer at 7.30pm, in thanksgiving for the success of the association and in memory of its deceased members. Mass will be followed immediately by the unveiling of a monument to the honour of 50 years of Banteer ploughing. The monument beautifully crafted by O’Learys Stone, Banteer and situated opposite the church will be unveiled by Denis Keohane, Vice Chairman of the National Ploughing Association and Brid Cooney of Banteer Macra who was recently crowned Miss Macra 2014. Immediately after the unveiling the book launch will take place at the Glen Theatre, Banteer, where light refreshments will be served. Celebrations will continue later in the White Country Inn, Banteer where finger food will be served and music will be provided by Timmy Lynch. Everybody is very welcome and we are looking forward to a mighty celebration!

On Sunday 19th October, the club will hold the 50th Annual Ploughing Match. The match will be held by kind permission on the lands of John Murphy, Boolamore, Rathcoole at 12 pm. There will be horse, vintage, conventional, reversible & contractor ploughing classes and trade stands. We are expecting a large entry of classes especially from neighboring counties. Everybody is very welcome. Enquiries to Joe Twomey 087 926 0852
