Sunday, 03 September 1933 – Monday, 07 April 2014

A wonderful, loving, gentle, husband, Dad, Grandpa, teacher and friend began a new adventure today.

Con died peacefully with family beside him. We shall all miss him along with his Irish wit, friendly smile and gems of conversation.Dearly loved by his wife of 45 years, Nancy; daughter Mary O’Connor (Robert D’Attilio); son Dr Kevin O’Connor (Pina Hare); stepsons Stephen Withers (Melissa Poole) and Dr Martin Withers.He was very proud of his 11 grandchildren: Joey and Anna D’Attilio, Nyala, Sonoma and Angel O’Connor and Jessica, Jennifer, Ben, Tyler, Summer and Matthew Withers.

Con is survived by sisters Joan Newnham of Hampshire, UK and Cathy Kedie of Bantry, Ireland, Noreen Ball of Manchester, UK and many nieces and nephews in Canada, Ireland and the UK. Dear brother-in-law and friend of Susan Holliday (Ron) and Joyce Honsberger (Harv).Con is predeceased by his parents James and Mary (O’Sullivan) O’Connor, brothers John, Maurice and Patrick, and sister Eileen.

Con came to Canada in 1961 to work at Port Arthur General Hospital (now in Thunder Bay) as an RN and later as a teacher teaching both new students and existing staff. Con worked in many areas of nursing including the OR and management.He attended Lakehead University in Thunder Bay (B.ScN) and the University of Western Ontario in London. In 1970 he became a professor at Confederation College in Thunder Bay. In 1974 he was appointed as a professor at Lambton College in Sarnia where he taught many levels of nursing prior to retiring in 1994.He loved to travel. Con made several trips home to Ireland and visited his many relations there and in the UK as well as in New Zealand. Con lived as a boy on a farm near Millstreet, Cork. Due to illness as a child, he did not start school until he was 9. He always worked hard and overcame any adversity.

He had many friends who loved him.

Thank you to the many health professionals who supported Con since he was diagnosed with Lewy Body disease. Thank you also to the staff at University Hospital (Acute and Sub-acute / Palliative wards) who provided excellent care in Con’s last weeks.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday, April 13, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at SMITH FAMILY CENTRE (in front of the funeral home), 1576 London Line, Sarnia, ON N7T 7H2.
In lieu of flowers, sympathy may be expressed through donations to a charity of your choice (cheques only at the funeral home please).
Visitation
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, April 13, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at SMITH FAMILY CENTRE (in front of the funeral home)

We were notified yesterday by Con’s wife Nancy of his death in an email:
We are very sad to  let anyone who, knew Con  or his family years back in Millstreet, that Con  died this morning (7th April 2014) here in London Ontario at 6.05am He was such a wonderful kind and loving man  and thankfully the end was peaceful for him.
Catherine had sent me the  Millstreet  calendar recently and he enjoyed it. He was good  on St. Patrick’s Day  and enjoyed going out for a nice meal.

He is related to Joan and Con Duggan and still has cousins there in Balydaly and on the Millstreet road.
