Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to News Report 1178 from Millstreet. Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this soft and mild Tuesday morning.

The financial Report for Millstreet Parish including Millstreet, Ballydaly and Cullen was circulated in all three churches at all masses at the weekend.

And a note from our Canon, John FitzGerald reads as follows.


Our Parish Council have produced this account for the year ending December 31st 2012.

On behalf of  the Council  and myself, I want to acknowledge with deep appreciation the ongoing support you are giving in these recessionary times.

Every contribution no matter what  the amount is important to us as a Parish,for both servicing the debt on our restoration work and also the day to day running of the Parish.

Still with fundraising, Patricia Guerin would like to say many  thanks all those who supported her recent Coffee Day in aid of our church restoration fund and Cope in Mallow which amounted to €1,300.

Our Community Singers performed at the Dayroom in the Mercy Hospital in Cork on Sunday afternoon. They were very well received, and they  ended
their recitel   with a rousing rendering of “The Banks” following
Cork’s great win over Kilkenny in the Hurling.

We must all support our neighbours Boherbue this weekend as they hold their Gathering Festival. Starting on Friday night August 2nd with a monster Welcome Celebration in the Hall. Opening address by Fr Jim KennealyPP.
Master of ceremonies Mr frank O Sullivan .Guests will be seated at tables and refreshments will be served.

On Saturday August 3rd is action packed  From 10am until 3p.m., A Bus tour of Townlands. Admission €5. Plus various activities in the Hall with something for all ages. They are asking for

in Boherbue, during   the weekend

And at 9 that night a Gala Barn Dance with the wellknown Colm Cronin providing the Music.

Sunday August 4th. Choral Mass at 11am ,followed by music in the Square at 2, Pageant at 3 led by Cullen Pipe Band Narrator Peader O Callaghan.

Busking Exhibition at 4 and fron 7 to 9 A medley of sporting events at the Sports Field.

We wish the people of Boherbue every success with their three day event and hope they get great weather like we did ourselves here in Millstreet for our own Gathering Festival.

Padre Pio devotions at Rochestown on August 11th at 2.30.

The latest on the Tidy Towns,please be reminded that judging is ongoing for the Best residential and the best commertial fronts in the area.And keep up the good work. Flowers and shrubs are looking really well as a result of the soft rain that we are getting. Look up ther Tidy Towns page on our Website for all the details.

And be reminded that the Tidy Towns Church Gate collection takes place this weekend August ¾ .please support them well.

Our Macra Club will hold their annual BBQ at Corkerys on Saturday August 17th So keep that date free.

The newest publication by Aubane historical Society entitled Willowbrook is selling well at Wordsworth. Also the book on the great Moonlighter Sean Riobard. And still with the same man A guided tour of the places associated with him will be held on Sunday August 25th from 1-5pm. Adm. €10.

The Sliabh Luachra Summer School continues in Rockchapel all this week.
Grand Ceili on Thursday  and Friday night. Tour of all the important sites of Sliabh Luachra on Bank Holiday Monday.

Weekly seisuins every Tuesday night. At 9.

Here are the results of this weeks parish lotto draw which was held at McCarthys Bar on Sunday night. Numbers drawn were

3, 9, 10, 24 and even though 7 people had three numbers, the Jackpot was not won.

€100 went to Noreen Murphy,Ballydaly, the sellers were Jerry & Robert and they got €50 sellers prise.
