Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to News Report 1168 from Millstreet .Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this nice mild Tuesday morning.

Our community is continuing to work its way down through the long list of events that were planned to celebrate the year of the Gathering. This past week was extra special as we recalled events of our hosting the EuroVision Song contest twenty years ago. On Wednesday night people gathered at the Wallis Arms Hotel bringing with newspaper cuttings photographs and stories that they had saved since 1993 to share with their friends.

On Friday night a EuroVision style Caraoke Contest was held at the same venue and a great time was had by all. Many congratulations to the lovely Muireann Buckley who was successful and also Brian O Leary was also declared a winner  in another category..

But the highlight of the week was on Saturday night at the Green Glens when the spirit of former glory was reawakened.

Organised by the Community Council,it was a remarkable undertaking,  Two huge screens where mounted at either sides of the stage and videos of the happenings of 1993 were played, and the crowd were glued to the happenings and they were in awe of all the changes that had to be made in order to meet the needs of the greatest show Europe.

The venue was ablaze with lights and bunting and multi-coloured balloons.
Tables were set ,and tickets were oversold, but our members met the challenge and everybody got seated.  Marie Twomey manned the wine reception at the entrance the pipe Band played, and Kingdom caterers served and lovely buffett mea.Sean Radley was at hand at all times taking pictures and when our special guests Niamh Cavanagh and her husband Paul arrived they got a wonderful reception.Everybody wanting to hear her sing In You Eyes one more time.

I have to leave it there and move on to the next item on our busy list of events.
