Greyhounds: The annual coursing meet took take place in Millstreet Town Park on Friday the 4th and Saturday the 5th of January 2013 with an 11:30am start both days. I remember seeing hares being savaged by greyhounds at this event 50 years ago.We used to go in the Toiwn Park at lunchtime from Cllaiste Padraig. Once was enough for me. Does it still go on?
The hares are trained to run to the escape. The slipper is trained to give the hare enough lead to be able to out run the greyhound. In the past an occasional hare did get caught by the dogs, but very few. I notice that the dogs are now wearing muzzels making it impossible for them to catch the hare with their teeth, do sll hares should now be abale to escape.
