Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to News Report 1142 from Millstreet.

Fondest Greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this wet and wintery Tuesday morning.

It was a sparkling week here in Millstreet when our Living Scenes Project swept the board in Brussels  itself, as they took part in the European Year of Active Ageing  Competition. Out of a field of 1,000 entries from all over Europe,  they were awarded second place. School Chaplin , John Magee and founder member Eansie Twomey travelled to Brussels for the presentation.  And on their return on Thursday a gala event was held at the school. It was attended by Dr. Mary Surlis of NUI Galway who devised Living Scenes in the first place. Many past pupils attended as did our Parish Priest Canon John FitzGerald. Past teachers were also there and many others who have been associated with the project since it was started here at our Community School 7years ago. Sean Radley was there to capture it all on film. Look up the website for more details. It was a proud day for Millstreet and its Community School.

In Aubane last Friday night they had the launch of their centenary DVDs , and they are on sale from any committee member at €10 each.

The Aubane Committee have a long line of events planned in the run-up to Christmas. Starting with a cake decorating night on December 5th Given by one of their own, Margaret Guilfoyle .

Other items will be announced as we come nearer the time.

This is Presentation Day, we have Mass in our Parish Church this evening  at 7.30 and sadly it is to mark the end of  our Presentation Sisters  time here in Millstreet.  The lack of vocations has taken it’s toll as is has all over the world. Our Presentations Nuns have been in Millstreet since 1840, and in all those long years they have been a beacon of Religion and learning to all those crossed their threshold.

For most of that time they were an enclosed order and could never take part in the  life of the local community ,but that didn’t stop them from preparing us for life in  the outside world. All we can do now is to say many thanks to them for all their care, and wish them God’s Blessings in the future. Refreshments will be served in the Parish Centre after Mass this evening.
