St.Michael’s Cup Quarter-final: Lakewood 2 Millstreet Celtic 3

We beat Lakewood 3-2 in Ovens today to advance to the semi final of the Michaels Cup. Lakewood started the game well but were unable to create any good chances. We gradually got a hold in the game and had the first good chance when Tadhg Collins shot just wide. We had a great chance to take the lead on 25 mins when Brian Murphy was hauled down in the box after a good run but Tim Kiely’s penalty was well saved. We didn’t let he heads drop though and took the lead 10 mins later. John o Mahony’s flicked through ball found Collins who slammed home at the near post. We were looking strong now and Collins went close again before we went two ahead just on the stroke of half time following a great move. Brian Murphy found Collins up the line and he cut in along the end line before squaring for the onrushing Mark Ellis to fire home. The 2nd half was fairly even until Lakewood got one back from the penalty spot with 25 mins remaining. We hit back 10 mins later when Michael Murphy sent Collins clear to finish well. We had two great chances to make it 4 but couldn’t convert and Lakewood gave us a few nervous minutes when they got one back with 3 mins to play. We held firm though and booked our place in the semi. Best for us on the day were Mark Ellis, Brian Murphy and Tadhg Collins.

  1. I like how the match reporters penalty was ‘well saved’. Not the first time one of Tim’s penaltys has been ‘well saved’ Im afraid. Can’t afford to be missing penalties if you want to win cups…..
