Millstreet Community Council is to be sincerely congratulated on initiating the praiseworthy project of illuminating the Cross on Clara Mountain. The late Dan Duggan, West End for whom a special Mass was celebrated this Friday evening, 4th Sept. 2026 in St. Patrick’s Church often spoke of his being a member of the dedicated team that first placed the Cross on Clara’s summit in the Holy Year of 1950. How fitting it was then that on this evening the Cross was illuminated in memory of the wonderful Dan. The illumination continued for about thirty minutes. In fact our first image of the special sight was recorded from Dan’s very door in West End by Patsy Dineen. All the other images were taken from Mount Leader, Clara Road, Millstreet. In a future feature we shall share images of the work that has gone on in the background to bring this truly magical sight to reality.
