Welcome to the month of July and indeed to our Indian Summer. For a year which started off at a very slow pace, with months of rain and cold winds it is as if it is making up for lost time at the moment. Rich growth is bursting out all over the place and the months of early Spring are just a bad memory. Baoichas le Dia. Things are busy as if making up for lost time. The turf in the bogs is getting another turn with everybody helping to get the job done. The mega loads of silage bales going the roads is evidence of a good return. Some farmers getting two or three cuttings from the same field and more to come, to be stowed away for the coming winter. Once a farmer, always a farmer, and these are the things that catch my eye as the busy world passes my gate. Inside the garden the growth is also very plain to see with hedges overhanging my drive, but I am slow to get them trimmed because it’s the playground for the birds. I don’t always see them but the rustling of the bushes lets me know that they are in there. In among the dense greenery there is the odd gooseberry and Blackcurrant bush and my feathered friends waste no time or energy in making a meal of them. I always like to find some if I’m doing something outside but judging by the activity in the hedges I’ll have to forego the pleasure this year. The wild woodbine has climbed to the top on my variegated holly tree and is leaning it’s wobbly body out over everything else just to make sure that we can all see it and get the sweet aroma late on a soft summer evening. I rarely if ever sit out in the garden, I have to be doing something. It was a joy to go deadheading the roses during the week with the soft warm breeze in the air. A friend gave me a few pea seeds and I planted them on pots on the patio. They are grown up now and are in flower with pods coming on. I’m looking forward to eating them off the hook later on, I think there is nothing as nice as peas raw straight from the pod.
Because of the lovely weather rural festivals are enjoying great success this summer. Ballinagree held theirs on Sunday and it was a wonderful success.
The Cullen Special Needs association will host their annual Vintage Day on July 19. Please give them your best support.
Feile Laitiarain will be held in Cullen. This year they are pulling out all the stops and hosting a three day event on July 24-26. Please look up their program of events. Which will include the re-opening of the village Pub. Be ready to give this lovely historic village your best support.

Our Community Singers with Marie Twomey were made very welcome when they went along to our local Hospital last week to entertain the patients. And they were invited come again another time. On the Media I saw where a group of young singers attached to the National Concert Hall in Dublin won the World Championships in Slovakia. Well done to them. Another one up for our little Country.
Many congratulations to the lovely Nora Kelleher(Broker) Minor Row who celebrated her 94th birthday recently. We wish Nora all the Best for the future. Still with that name. The sprightly Nora Kelleher across the road in Minor Row. Well known years ago for her dedication to our Church alter. Nora has moved to take up residence at number 2 Canon O’Donovan Centre. Clara Rd. Others who have taken up residence there recently are Tim Healy and Helen O’Grady. We wish them every comfort and God’s blessing in their newly refurbished homes.
The Green Glens Complex is revving up for a very busy year ahead. This past week July 2-5 The Millstreet Young Riders Grand Prix was held there. With 500 Entries The weather hot, so much so that tanks of water had to be drawn to keep the dust down. By Monday all was cleared away as preparations are on the way to host the FEI ( Diversity, Equity & Inclusion) World Championships of Eventing. U25 Millstreet International Horse Trials on July 22-26. It will be held over the four hundred acres of flowing plains of Drishane . Fourteen countries from as far away as New Zealand and the USA will converge on our town for this world class event. The local Community Council and working with the Duggan Family to prepare our town for this a memorable occasion. People in the town will decorate their windows for the Country of their choice , as they extend a real céad míle Fáilte to the cream of equestrian world. Houses in the town are enjoying a new coat of paint and it looks as though everybody is putting in the effort . That will be on July 22-26.
Eucharistic Adoration every Tuesday from 10.30am to 7.30pm. Please spend a little time with the Lord.

The Popes intention for July. Let us pray for the respect and protection of human life in all it’s stages , recognising it is a gift from God.
By all accounts we are in for a heatwave ,take good care. Stay in and keep cool .
Please accept a sincere word of thanks from me for your reaction to my health report. The Mass cards the prayers the viseable sings of love and concern .From those at home and far away places like Dubai, Australia ,Poland (God Bless you Magic). Believe me they bring me great comfort as I wait for my next call for tests etc. Believe me I didn’t mean to cause a stir, but since I regard my readers as my friends I wanted you all to know what my situation was from the beginning and not depend on rumours etc. If I think that there is more for you to know then I will tell you. In the meantime life goes on and my days are full of things to do and people to meet. Advanced years don’t mean that you stop. There is always something new to learn, someone new to meet. Interesting places to go. In our prayers we are all in it together and that is a very comforting thought.
