The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is celebrated from 18th to 25th January each year. It’s a time when different Christian denominations, like Roman Catholic, Baptist, Methodist and Church of Ireland celebrate what they have in common and agree to take action on issues that they all feel strongly about. These might be climate justice, homelessness or the challenges faced by people who have come to Ireland having had to leave their homeland. There are differences that go back centuries between the different Christian denominations, but this is a time to seek out what unites people.
To mark the week Millstreet Community School welcomed Reverend Alison Gallagher to the school on 20th January. She is the Methodist Minister responsible for the churches in Killarney and Kenmare. She met with the First Year students and answered the questions they had prepared for her about the Methodist Church, her role and why she feels that Christian Unity Week is important.
