Recent publication which maybe of interest to people in the Millstreet area

A book which features the tenants on Viscounts Lismore estate in counties Cork, Limerick and Tipperary was recently published by Four Courts Press.
The material for the book comes from the Tim Looney papers which are deposited in Special Collections, UL.  Using letters exchanged between land agent and tenants as well as other material, this book explores the lives of people in the 1890s- an often overlooked decade in Irish history.
Both Ireland’s Own and RTE Brainstorm have both published articles based on material in the book.
Of interest to people from Millstreet, may be the story of Nora O’Sullivan and how at nine years old, following the death of her stepmother, she raised her younger brothers and sisters. Nora, originally from Banteer, married John Foley, Clonbanin, in 1919. They had one daughter, Bridget Mary and Nora passed away in Millstreet District Hospital in 1922.
Bridget married Michael Murphy Dromtarriff in 1959.
