  1. I love your photos of the spring colours in Ballydaly. The top photo reminds me of walking to school in my childhood along the boreens to Knocknagree. This plant is called bawnickeen in Irish.Old poachers would tell us if you pounded the roots on a rock in the river, fish would float to the surface stunned and could be collected for eating. I never tried it but there might have been some truth in it as the plant is toxic in all its forms.When crushed it produces a sticky milky sap.The English name is Marsh spurge or Marsh euphorbia.Latin name Euphorbia palustris.

    1. The little yellow flowers in your second photo are Gráine, lesser celandine in English.The Irish name translates as sun because they open and close as the sun appears and disappears.
