Remembering Pope Francis in our Masses this weekend

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of our Holy Father Pope Francis on last Monday and especially as we had seen him on Easter Sunday greeting pilgrims and listening to his Urbi et Orbi.

Having chosen the name Francis, his papacy of 12 years highlighted the plight of the poor, the tremendous suffering due to war and the destruction of nature by mankind. He preached and lived God’s Mercy for all. As we remember Pope Francis this weekend, we recall a passage from his Urbi et Orbi:

Thanks to Christ, crucified and risen from the dead, hope does not disappoint! All those who put their hope in God place their feeble hands in his strong and might hand; they let themselves be raised up and set out on a journey. Together with the risen Jesus, they become pilgrims of hope, witnesses of the victory of love and of the disarmed power of Life.”

May we honour Pope Francis by living our life as he wanted – in showing compassion, mercy and forgiveness in our homes and communities.

We pray that Pope Francis has reached the heavenly home promised to him at baptism and that he will rest in eternal peace in the loving arms of God.
