Bina – I totally agree. Dan was such a wonderfully happy and cheerful man always with a great smile. In time to come we hope to share a brief video of the day in the 1970s when I accompanied Dan as he made his way home in his traditional transport as I sat in the cart with a cine camera in my hand recording life in Minor Row and Drishane Road as we trotted along. I got off at the entrance to Drishane Cemetery and then walked back to town….even though Dan offered to bring me back to town again – such was his generous nature. God rest Dan – mighty memories.

I think your one donkey power journey from Minor Row to Drishane could be considered carbon neutral in a time when that term was unknown. The photos are wonderful and are what Minor Row always looks like in my mind.
So true, Gene….Dan was way before his time promoting a carbon neutral world at a time when we had never heard of such a term! Glad you’ve enjoyed our delving into our pictorial archives. Lots more images to follow in time.
Fab pictures Sean of Minor Row. It’s the differences between then and now that really stand out. The picture of Dan is such a beautiful reminder of a different and simpler life back then. I am really looking forward to seeing some more memories from your vast treasures in the museum
Sincere thanks, Fr. James. Like your own superb pictorial archive, images from the past can truly evoke such precious memories. And, yes, we shall attempt sharing lots more over the next year. It’s one of the very real blessings of our website that we are enabled to share special images of a bygone era with a global audience. We shall have to bring our image of Dan to the homepage such are the many uplifting comments we’ve been receiving about that particular picture of the 1970s.
